Have you ever seen more hot air and wishful-thinking than the popular theory that our LBs are too old to last a full season? I've never seen more wishful thinking on the part of lame fans and mediots. Right from the beginning of the year they projected that Junior and Tedy would keel over into their walkers and wheelchairs at about week 12. Well, how wrong were they? WRONG.

And now those poor, old, fumbling-bumbling LBs have a week off while the young guys are running around getting all tired in other time zones. What a freaking shame. How bloody unfair that the Patriots seem to milk a guy's experience to advantage while other teams haven't figured that out.

I think these lame-o fans and mediots forgot who was evaluating the talent for this team. Going against his judgment is a risky operation at best. They did though. Stupid, stupid, stupid,

(A) The way to stop Randy Moss is to just keep jamming him at the line. (If that works so well, why isn't every damn DC doing it?)
(B) The Pats can't run the ball.

IMO what did the Pats in last year in the AFCCG was the overall health of the defense and they couldn't play a full 60 minutes.

We also had zero to no depth in the secondary and the team this year has alot of depth in Gay, Wilson, Merriweather.

I don't think the lb's will be an issue like you say because the Pats will have their nickle package in quite a bit. and they can also rotate their d-linemen and even go to a 4 man front giving a lb a breather.

I'm sure BB will have them ready to go and the defense was vanilla last week and didn't decide to blitz until the 2nd half.

when they need to make plays they elevate to an entire other level.

whatever duude, it was in last year's post -season that our LBs let us down. lets just draft this guy in 1st round and make like we never had a disagreement

No, I don't think they're over-the-hill, not for one second. I had doubts early in the year but I settled the doubts this way: If the talent evaluators on this team want those guys out there, that settles it for me. End of doubts.

Seau and Bruschi were better as part time players prior to Colvin's injury, than as full time players since. They were both once probowl caliber players, but are no longer because they are both past their prime. There is no sin in admitting the obvious.

No, I don't think they're over-the-hill, not for one second. I had doubts early in the year but I settled the doubts this way: If the talent evaluators on this team want those guys out there, that settles it for me. End of doubts.

I don't think they're over the hill but you better rotate them and keep them fresh. that is the key to the pats.... teams try to slug it out with them but can only do so for 2 and a half quarters then the pats start to wear them down in the 3rd then the 4th quarters.

you talk about talent evaluation.... didn't BB evaluate last year?

it's not a matter of evaluation... it's realizing what you have and putting your players in position to win.

I'm a big Bruschi fan but I admit, he's getting a little long in the tooth to be playing the position. They need to either draft or sign a young LB to learn the system before Tedy retires. Nothing they can do about it now...

While it is true that our linebackers have done a good job this year, it is

also unrealistic that they can go on much longer. Junior Seau will be

39 on January 19th and Tedy Bruschi will be 35 when training camp starts.

I can see Tedy returning for one more year but in a reserve role. I

would like to see BB draft and groom a young linebacker but would not be

surprised if he did not draft any linebackers at all in the early rounds.

With regard to our defensive backs, I have watched Jay Feely and

Kyle Boller complete too many passes to state that we have good

depth in our defensive backfield. We need another good cornerback.

If Samuel leaves, we need two good cornerbacks. I'd like to see the

Pats draft two cornerbacks as they did in 2003 (Wilson and Samuel).

Seau and Bruschi were better as part time players prior to Colvin's injury, than as full time players since. They were both once probowl caliber players, but are no longer because they are both past their prime. There is no sin in admitting the obvious.

Brett Favre is past his prime. Rodney Harrison too. Jason Taylor, John Lynch, Michael Strahan, Derrick Brooks, Terrell Owens, Al Harris, Jamaal Williams, Alan Faneca and Kevin Mawae are all way past their physical peak. Yet they continue to make plays and be leaders on their teams.

Bruschi may be old. He may be a step slow. But does anybody here seriously want to see him leave. What his body may have lost is well compinsated by his smarts and experience.

(Despite that, I agree with one thing. Draft Laurenitis!)

he's good guy no doubt. i remember before bills game in buffalo when bills injured TE everett made an announcement on the jumbotron to go "beat them pats." the camera was on bruschi i guess because of his own career/life threatening injury. tedy was pure class, smiled as if to say "that's the spirit." didn't take it personally that he said beat the pats. tedy is a solid classy guy

Well, the hills are getting a little steeper every year.

I would agree with you that, having dodged some bullets, the 4 healthy experienced LBs will benefit more from the rest and use their time more effectively than most.

Still, I wish we had a little depth ready to go.

Considering our game against the Colts last year, I don't see how you think the "mediots" theory is far fetched.

By the way, I'm very happy how those two have responded lately and i do think they looked slow and tired mid-season against the colts and others.

Past their primes, sure. No problem with that concept.

Over-the-hill would be the point of failure though. So far I don't see much to complain about there. They're hanging in there. They will be more dependable than young guys in pressure situations where you need experience to read the plays. I like our chances with them.

But they are past their primes, and changes will have to be made. I just want the changes to be made while they are resting after a SB victory.

Me too, but I think we may be surprised at what Woods and Alexander can do if they get the call.

I consider last year's collapse to be mostly due to the flu. That, plus the really tough game and the travel the week before.

The other factor was having a big lead at the half. I do think the team is at its best when making adjustments at the half, and catching the other team by surprise. This time it was not set up that way. Their adrenalin must have dropped at the half, and they really needed it more than normal due to the illness.

I expect no such collapses this year. I've never worried about that. If we were to lose one more LB then I'd begin to really sweat it, but until something like that happens, I'm not really sweating it.

What I would not want to see is a lot of broken plays in any one game where the LBs are in pursuit a lot, all over the field, not getting to the QB in time. That is a prescription for gassing any defense, but especially this LB crew.
