one of the 2 Ohio State players. Who would you rather have. Laurinitis(sp?) or Gholston. I have not had a chance to do much research on these 2. Lauranitis was the household name all year, but Gholston seems to be getting a lot of love from patsfans here on this site. So, who do you take and why. And who would you compare the 2 to players already in the nfl?

Lauranatis because he reminds me of a young Brian Urlacher.

Neither has declared yet.

I like Gholston but we have Vrabel at OLB, probably Colvin and, if Colvin is released, Thomas probably in his spot. Plus Woods seems like he should have some upside. ILB seems like the bigger need, with two old guys and little quality backup. From the reading I've done so far, though, Gholston seems to be more of a sure fit.

I say we take a CB instead :)

Don't forget the 3rd Ohio St. defender in Jenkins.

Gholston, I think he is athletic and powerful enough to play all the linebacker positions on our team.
You know how much BB cares about versatility.
I think I will cry if the Jet's draft him first or let someone trade in there spot who takes him from us.
For me it's either 3 guys, Gholston, Chris Long, Phillips.

I would love either player BUT somehow I believe BB won't take either one.

Laurinaitis, Gholston, and Jenkins are the top choices at 7th overall?

Yup, the annuel inflation of OSU players continues....

I thnk we are going to trade down like always one of the top QBs will shine at the senior bowl and ocmbine and a team like Chicage will fall in love with him and try to move ahead of Baltimore to make sure they get him then they will proably take the top CB left and take a Lb in the second or Third round.

In the Pats 3-4 that isn't a good thing. I remember a couple years ago when the Bears' D-line was undergoing some transition. Everyone was wondering what happened to Urlacher. He disappeared. O-linemen were getting through that reworked D-line and getting to Urlacher and he couldn't get away from them.

Well, in the Pats' 3-4 the ILBs have to shed O-linemen all the time. It's part of the job description. So if Laurinitis has trouble getting off blocks (like I've seen and read) he's not a great fit for the Pats' system.

Who are the best fits in terms of our D coming out of College? I've not had chance to see much college football this year, the only one I've really seen much of has been Maualuga, and he's not coming out.

He hasn't declared yet. But, V.Gholston - OLB/DE - Ohio St. seems to fit our scheme pretty good. Edge pass-rushers are the hardest thing to find in the league on defense. If we think there is a good one there at 7. I think we take him. Colvin is in his last year. And, allows us to keep AD inside. Pretty good year for cb's. I think if we go olb in round 1. We can trade up for a cb in round 2. Then, we still have a 3. I'm pretty optomistic we can fill our needs on defense this year.

If Gholston can be a 15-20 sack guy at the OLB position then it becomes a nobrainer. But who knows if he can really pull that off at the NFL level?

Let's take a peek at his college stats:
2007 34 tackles 14.5 tfl 13.0 sacks
2006 49 tackles 15.0 tfl 8.5 sacks

I dunno, Bruschi and Vrabel had more impressive college careers statwise, and exactly who has Ohio State faced this year of any consequence?

I'll be watching the National Championship game with interest to see if the Ohio State defenders highlighted above - Laurinitis, Gholston, Jenkins are as good as advertised or if this is just a case of the hype getting ahead of the talent.
