I've never heard of this site, but anybody who has a 3-round mock on 1/3 is all right in my eyes.

Patriots picks:

Malcolm Jenkins
Jonathan Goff
Chris Johnson (RB East Carolina)
Terrence Wheatley (CB Colorado)

Decent, I would've gone

1. Gholston (OLB)
2. Mike McGlynn (RT)
3a. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (CB)
3b. Beau Bell (ILB)

Oh good...I love this game! I'd have opted for:

Gholston
Goff
Chevis Jackson CB
Owen Schmitt TE/FB/All Around Stud

Owen Schmitt? Is he the second coming of Garrett Mills? :bricks:

I'm hoping he's the next combination of Heath Evans and Kyle Brady. He's just an awesome football player, and one of my......sigh...."Binkies". (Is that proper usage?) He'd look tight in a #48 jersey.

Yes, that is proper usage. Not sure about "tight," though. ;)

Seriously, though, from what I've seen of him--and the story of how he got to the Mountaineers--he has "Patriots-type player" written all over him.

I really like Jon Goff, and would be extremely happy if NE landed him at the end of round two. I'd like to draft Maualuga in round one (hopefully with a minor trade down), but Goff is the next best thing, and we don't even know if Rey's declaring. The Patriots don't exactly have a track record for taking LB's early either.

When it comes to DB's in the first round, I'd rather trade down a few spots and select Cason (with development he could take over Samuel's role, and he's dangerous with the ball in his hands).

I've always liked Kenny Phillips, but Sanders seems to be developing into a decent player, and Meriweather will be a good Safety, so NE might go another direction. There's a few reasons why I believe they'll select a Safety within the first three or four rounds though...

Sanders will be a free agent after the 2008 season (If he continues to develop there could be some good offers on the open market), Rodney's getting close to retirement, and Wilson's likely gone.

Now, if NE stays at 7th overall I'd expect OT's, and DL's to get some consideration. Remember, BB & Pioli like to build from the trenches out, and they've been able to develop DB's selected in later rounds.

At OT Matt Light gets the job done (for the most part), but NE could use an upgrade over Kaczur and O'Callaghan. I'm not saying they suck, but a top level OT would likely be an upgrade. If this OT proves to be an outstanding player, it would also give NE more flexibility with Light.

Wilfork's a beast at NT, but he's also a free agent after 2009. Hopefully NE extends him, but having a backup plan wouldn't be a bad idea (we can't just assume he's resigning).

NE could also use another DE to develop behind Seymour and Green (both free agents after 2009). I thought Kareem Brown could develop into a nice player for NE, and Pioli thought they might have stolen him in the fourth round, but he couldn't get onto the field, and found his way out of town.

Schmitt was impressive last night. He got tons of blocks that sprang WVU runners all night. Plus he ran it three times and got 60 plus yards.
What a beast. The only thing that concerned me was that he DID NOT play special teams.

Also Left Tackle Sanchez of WVU played out of his mind last night. He was pankcaking anything he could get his hands on.

PS: Schmitt's mohawk haircut looked super cool.

Stanchek? He's a Junior. It would be interesting if he declared.

I was pretty close on the name, missing 1 letter and got another letter worng. I'll try harder next time.

If I were him, I would wait for next season, a lot of good OT's in this draft. With Stewart as coach, the team retains some continuity.

Any draft that says we should take McFadden, I am not going to put any stock into

I think Goff in the 2nd is a humongous reach. This guy is listed as a 4th rounder and that is before the junior declarations.

What I find surprising, so far, is the juniors that haven't declared yet.

Several of the juniors are from OSU and probably have to wait until

the final game is over. I read earlier that these players had asked the

NFL to project where they could expect to be drafted.

Aren't all the bowl games over now? They have to have filed by the 14th/15th of January, I believe.

At this early stage you can find a guy like Goff "listed" all over the board. Here are some who have him going before the Pats' 2nd-round pick:

Plus I know that Sebman has seen a lot of Goff, so his assessment of Goff as round-2 value means as much to me as any.

BCS Championship game with OSU and LSU tomorrow. It's

seems the bowl games go on forever. January 15th is when the

juniors have to declare and I believe they have a week to change

their mind.

I like the idea of trading back with Carolina, swapping 1sts and getting their 2nd for our last 3rd. We then take:
1--Gholston-DE
2a--Rodgers-Cromartie-CB
2b-- Bell-ILB
3--Johnson-RB
It would be nice to think we had at least 4 guys from the draft with a chance to make not just the team but at least have a chance at cracking the starting lineup someday(IE not cannon fodder).
