Ravens ask for permission to interview McDaniels

Per the NFLN, Baltimore has faxed a request today to the the New England Patriots to talk to the Patriot's 31 year old offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels. The Ravens are also interested in three other candidates, including Cowboy's young coordinator Jason Garrett.

Maybe this whisper came from the same 'source' that said Ed Reed was ready to take a pay cut to play for the Pats, and this is just a move by the Nevermores to placate Big Ed by bringing some Patriot blood so he can feel good about staying. Makes sooooo much sense, right?

Due to the feeling that some coordinators were getting screwed for possible job advancement since most teams fill coaching vacancies before the playoffs are over, a few years ago they started letting teams interview the coordinators of the 1 and 2 seeds during the bye week.

We all know that BB loves Reed. Ed probably knows, too. The Ravens, meanwhile, suck. It's not like he can say "well I like where I am and my team has a shot at competing with the Patriots". I don't think a deal of that magnitude is likely, but I do think it is possible.

why doesn't the NFL have a rule that you cant talk to any coaches/coordinators until after the season is over? it seems to be a big distraction for playoffs teams.

The NFL needs to institute a new rule whereby no team is allowed to do this until the teams involved are finished in the playoffs. This is just some distracting BS.

Guys that have paid their dues for years deserve a chance and shouldn't be punished for being successful.

Of course that doesn't apply to Josh, but hey if some team wants to roll the dice on a guy who's never even coached a position, you can't stop them.

Yeah a little. I attribute the success of last year's team more to the defense than the offense. I just don't think this guy has proven anything yet. Its just typical the typical NFL overreaction.

Last year's offense was 7th in the NFL, and it was the defense that collapsed against the Colts, not the offense.

That was game was lost at the end of the 2nd quarter when the Pats had their feet on the Colts collective throat and then pissed away a golden opportunity to go up 28-6. Then they couldn't find a way to get 4 yards and close out the game in the 4th quarter.

The defense collapsed yet it was the offense that was revamped this season.
