Im sure this has been mentioned and I have read the thread on afraid of the Colts and here is a tid bit.The fact is that no dome team ever won a conference championship game on the road and I just do not see that changing this year. This is of course if both the Pats and Colts make it too that game.

For extra credit, can you show us the teams/games in which this happened? <3

What about in 1999 when the Atlanta Falcons, who play in the Georgia Dome went to Minnesota and beat the Vikings 30-27 in overtime in the NFC Championship game in which Anderson missed his only FG of the year?

Phil beat Falcons when Pats beat INdy to set up SB 39 and I'm sure there are others to support the contention but there is at least one road victor so that 'fact' goes up in flames. Sorry.....

Perhaps on the road [not in a dome]? The Vikings play in a dome. You still prove the original poster incorrect, I'm just wondering.

how many times has a dome team even played in a conference championship on the road, outdoors?

and they were underdogs every time, right?

^^ this is neither interesting, nor important.

No Dome team ever won a conference championship outside a dome is what meant to say.

I didn't say it was more or less important.

I said it was neither interesting, nor important.

wait....were you just mocking the op?

kinda. Stats are just that. Stats. Indy can beat us in the AFCCCG (if we get there). Brady can win the SB this year. Just because it hasn't happened (the nature of the NFL makes stats bad, very small sample size), doesn't mean it can't. Thats my real point :)

Actually they are both pretty meaningless.

Not meaningless at all,the dome team playing outside in the winter elements is more relevant because the weather plays a major role in games, where as the other is just numbers.

Truly -- you find the fact that in the super bowl era the league leader in passing yardage has never won the super bowl? I find that tremendously interesting, and, since our team has that guy this year, certainly as relevant as stuff posted here all the time.

While stats can frequently be misleading, the fact that in 41 years this has not happened is, well, stunning. I can't believe it, in fact. How has this never happened? It's shocking.

I think it tends to support the notion that a balanced offense is important.

I wonder how many times the league leader in rushing yards has won the super bowl. I can think of at least a few in recent history -- Edgerin James, Emmet Smith, Terrell Davis, I think. I bet there have been several in the past 42 years. But not one QB yardage leader.

That's amazing.

When did Edgerin James win the SB?

psshh...he's got the ring to prove it, dude.

What do you want to bet that this stat will magically show up as evidence in one of Felger's articles picking against the Patriots? :)

I also find this stat very interesting but not totally surprising. After the recent emphasis in pass interference enforcement, I don't think you necessarily need a balanced run/pass offense but you do need a balanced passing offense (that forces defenses to cover the whole field) that would work indoors and outdoors, not one that just excels indoors only.

I can't believe John Hadl didn't make the playoffs in good ole' '68.

If this isn't a valuable stat, i don't know what is.

why it any more or less important than the dome stat?

Because for one, no QB on that list is named Tom Brady. On the dome stat, no dome team has ever advanced to a Superbowl having to win the conference title game OUTDOORS. Its been attempted 10 times. And there's a reason its never been done. They're DOME teams.
