George Steinbrenner's son-in-law Steve Swindal did and almost had the keys to the Yanks handed over to him (not a bad result), if not for doing something to piss Jennifer Steinbrenner off enough to get a divorce from him (and it wasn't the DUI).

Thankfully the unthinking posters starting all the Pioli to Miami threads will need to find outher ludicrous topics. The only motive a Pioli would have for leaving this excellent job situation would be if he was somehow hung up on the need to do it all on his own. Notice how that means NOT working for a father in law who is known as one of the most dominating figures in the league.

Seems like a good hire. Did a great job picking players for the Cowboys, longtime scout, been around the game since he was a little kid, and has worked with Parcells before.

if you think about it, Ireland has the perfect profile for the job. first of all, he's got a track record in player selection, an area where the fins have been woeful; second, he's worked for parcells before so he knows what he's getting into; third, he will be completely beholden to parcells since bill is giving him this opportunity--parcells doesn't like people who talk back to him.

Pioli would get less recognition and credit working under Parcells in Miami than he does here. Parcells ego will cast a shadow over every accomplishment made under his regime and it will all be attributed to him in the media. Sure he won't be picking the guys but they'll give him the credit for putting the organization together and for dictating what 'type' of guys they want and in the end that will take away from whatever credit the folks under him deserve.

Actually Scott is planning on leaving for the same reason Tom Brady is demanded to be traded next season, more challenge.

According to inside sources the Pro-bowl QB told Kraft that want to be traded preferably to the Dolphins, Raider or Rams. In a letter, he mentioned "that playing for New England has lost the challenge. With the wide receivers and o-line the patriots have it is just too easy. I want to play were I will be challenged, not have all day to throw to open wide receivers."

You're comparing apples to oranges. Steinbrenner's son-in-law is a no-name who didn't have a job anywhere near what Pioli has right now. For him it would have been a HUGE step up to get that job.

Pioli would be going to work for his father in law to do the same thing he's already doing. I'd pass.
