This would probably not happen, but on tuesday I heard on nfl radio that chad johnson is most likely looking to get shipped out of cincinnati. How many of you think giving away stallworth for johnson would be a god trade, and if it were to happen would it work out for both the pats organization and johnson. Would he conform to the patriots way like randy moss did.

Personally I think stallworth would be the perfect compliment for TJ of the Bengals.

Supposedly Chad wants a new contract this offseason. Something like that would make sense if he were to play out this current contract with us but that doesn't seem likely.

The two players, in my mind (without actual fact checking), seem similar enough in value to warrant trade talks. BB also seems to like CJ. However, if he also likes Stallworth, and Stallworth knows our system and has proven his ability to play well, I think BB stays with Stallworth.

I've personally never understood why BB seems to find Johnson so amusing. It's puzzling.

It's easy to find him amusing. He's on another team. If he were on this team, then BB might not find it amusing.

Moss at 8M per and Johnson at 8M per? Yeah, that'll happen.

Time for some new blood, Gaffney, Chad Jackson, whomever else.

The Pats are not going to pay the cash for two #1 receivers.
Moss will be the priority resign.
Stallworth will be cheaper than Johnson even when his bonus kicks in.

Somehow I just can't envision 85 smiling as he watches Moss and Welker set records... And as much as Bill admires his talent and gets a kick out of his antics on someone elses team, he also knows he won't block and he just can't contain himself.

He's also absorbed some vicious hits over the last couple of seasons.

Chad's salaries for the remainder of his $35M deal are beyond manageable. Therein lies a problem, on multiple levels. Cincy would take quite a dead cap hit since this deal was a 1 year $10.75M new money extension to his 2003 extension which originally ran through 2009. And they probably picked up his 2012 option for another $3.5M. His bonus money is done, so that is when they all want a new deal - particularly if their remaining salaries are below market. BTW another Rosenhaus client, so that would be interesting...

As for swapping Stallworth, we'd have to exercise his option first because it's due before FA opens, so we'd be stuck with a $6M+ dead cap on the player we traded. And Cincy would likey want a day one draft pick or so to boot.

Stallworth: Productive. Seemingly content with his role, bubbble screens, third option, etc. Johnson: ball-demanding, glory hound. Why even consider this possibility?

Yeah but itd be nice to have those two moss on one side and CJ on the other me personally I don't think it would work maybe on down the line when CJ is looking for a ring he might calm down and want to be on the patriots like moss did all I know is if we had both of those guys itd be a lot more dangerous then stallworth and moss well maybe well never know

I like Johnson as a player, but his demand for the camera is annoying as hell. That act would wear thin in New England and would he be able to handle it? I got my doubts.

We have other positions of need on this team. We are loaded at wide out.

This trade scenario is just not going to happen.

End of story. Next thread...

I've soured on Johnson the last year or 2. Listen to him during interviews sometime, it's all about -him- and his antics, nothing at all about the team. He can't conceive that it's not such a great idea to make up and perform these stupid TD celebrations when the team is losing big each week (to be fair, he did eventually reign it in a bit in the face of some serious team/public pressure later in the year).

His very public bickering with Palmer everytime there's an incompletion wouldn't fly here in New England either. And for every great catch he makes, he seems to drop an easy one to make up for it.

Frankly, I just don't think he's a good fit.

Stallworth hasn't lit it up like Moss this year, but for the most part, when they throw it to him, he catches it, and he's a beast in the open field. He's been probably the most enthusiastic guy on the field when another receiver makes a good play too - he really seems to have bought in to the team concept. I'd be disappointed to see him go...

the man celebrates a TD goin on a 4-7 team......

no way stallworth is good he demands double coverage and seems content on his role. i also think trading a 26 yr old for a 30 yr old is another bad think.also, he breaks tackles and his TD runs are awesome. I never seen WR who like to break tackles and stiff arms like him.

stallworth and wes are 26 and give brady a strong/stable WR presence for his career. moss is 31 so he will be good but cannot have monster years and take hits for 5 more years.

look, i love the prospect of CJ coming here and being great with TB....but the answer to ur question is NO on so many levels...

CJ is not the type of wr that stallworth is, he is more of a randy moss type wide reciever....we do not need two deep threats...we need one deep threat, and one wr good with yac....that is donte and randy...

i dont think CJ with randy will prove any more effective then stallworth and randy....i would actually see it as less effective

Moss & CJ being on the same team would've defensive coordinators wetting their pants every week.I just don't see this happening though.I'm a huge Stallworth fan (who's going to play a huge role in the postseason). We'll know Moss will be Moss as usual.Wes will be Wes.I really want Stallworth to get his shine on.Brady has so many weapons that are locked & loaded and ready for war.

I don't see that happening. The Pats have too many positions & players to alocate $$ too, and I don't think one of those is going to be WR. Johnson would make sense only if Moss doesn't resign. Assuming Moss is given a chunk of the cash (Asante, his replacement, ILB, Colvin, his replacement, #7 pick, resigning players, FA, etc), then Stallworth and his option won't be here. The Pats will be fine with Moss, Welker, Gaffney, and Chad Jackson picking up Stallworth's snaps.

If someone could tame CJ it might be BB but I can't see it happening.
People wondered about Moss and Dillion and look what happened.
So I wouldn't say never but I would be very surprised if BB could tame
this beast. :)

Besides if Harrison ends up retiring after his injuries maybe
Colts would pick up CJ? :bricks:

I really don't see Colvin going anywhere next season.

Mort was on ESPN radio this morning. He said he is hearing that Johnson and Rosenhaus are planning to stage a TO style holdout if the Bengals do not tear up his deal and pay him top WR money.

That pretty much closes this discussion.
