next year? He is a hell of a player, and it seemed him and the coaching staff really disagreed on his injury as he was placed on the IR. he is in the final year of his rookie contract (im pretty sure) and personally I get the feeling he wont resign

thoughts?

hes got 1 more year in NY

some say he doesnt fit in a 3-4 but not many ILBs look great when you have nothing in front of u

I hope he doesn't end up with the Colts, he's a perfect fit for them. But hey, if you wanna be the best, you've gotta beat the best, right?

I listened to several podcasts from WFAN where he does a weekly spot with Joe Beningo, have to admit he didnt seem to be eye-to eye with Mangini...

hmmmmm

they way I have seen him play he is a tackling machine, and your right he may be a loan bright spot on that D. Brushi is only 15 pounds heavier than vilma..

He was considered a natural leader and a smart player.

But which seems likely ... the Jets just release him with a few years left, or trade him to the Pats?

I have been a huge Vilma fan since he first came to miami. I hate the 3-4 because it does not use any of the strengths of Vilma which he run to the ball and side to side line pursuit. He isnt good at disengaging blockers which is huge. True we had little support for him up front but Dave Harris made everyone forget about that in his short stint. Harris is aa beast while Vilma is just a fish out of water the last two years. With his frame I dont see playing too far above 230. He just is not a 3-4 ILB. I expect the Jets to try and trade him this offseason, 0 shot the Pats would even look at him IMO

Victor Hobson, despite not being an everyday name, has been a steady and solid contributor at that position and is a UFA this summer and would probably come relatively cheap with experience in the same scheme. Him and Harris have both been far better than Vilma. I get the feeling Vilma's going to be shipped out, too... and it won't be to a 3-4 team.

Hobson has been better then Vilma but they play at different positions. He is a solid contributor as you described who could come relatively cheap. Please do not put him in the same sentence as Dave Harris though.

Vilma is unable to shed blockers.. he is more natural for the 4-3.. His stock not only dropped with change in philosphy in NY but the fact he has a serious injury..

David harris is the man for them now.. if he continues to progress, they have a beast..
