Who is going to be going free agent for linebackers this year? I only know of one karlos dansby and we need a young fast linebacker, do you guys know of any?

Lance Briggs?

Is this Colvin's last year?

Look for the Pats to make an off season signing of a linebacker. BB rarely drafts LB's, he just finds people allready in the league that fit our system. I havent seen a list of all of the free agents so I dont really know the possibilities.

HE WILL DRAFT ONE THIS YEAR. He has considered it recently - Beason, Vilma and others - but it hasn't happened.

Clark Haggans is a guy I think we might show interest in. He's an OLB for the Steelers, expericenced, but still young.

Another guy who I personally really like and would not surprised if we target is Victor Hobson, LB for the Jets. Physical, plays in a similar system, has played both inside and out. I think he'd be a great fit at ILB.

Don't get your hopes up on Dansby, Suggs, Briggs, etc. These guys are gonna get huge contracts that we simply can't afford.

I don't expect much in the ways of FA signings this year. I expect Seau to retire, but have Bruschi/Vrabel/AD/Covlin back so the need for a top tier LB is not that big. If we draft a LB in day one that should provide enough depth to get us thru the year.

Karlos Dansby, Arizona Cardinals, unless he signed an extension I don't know about. I think since he was the 1st pick of the second round his contract would expire after 4 years?

I don't know why. He's having a great year, playing at a very high level and having a blast.

Here is a better question. Do we release Colvin who is due a whopping bonus? If we do, does that save any cap space? We hve AD and Vrabel as starters on the outside. Inside is a big problem heading into next year if Bruschi or Seau retire.

completely agreed. the man loves the game, and loves winning. if he retires, what is he gonna do?
personally, at 39, i would not retire from my job because i would be extremely bored. and i dont love my job like he does.

think of it this way. if colvin was a guy from another team, would you give him that bonus to come over here to play? i think i would.

i just read Channing Crowder of Miami can opt out of his rookie contract this offsesaon

Wow, are you sure? I thought he was locked up until after the 2008 season.

That would be huge, Crowder would be a great fit in the Patriots defense.

Here is another list of potential free agents from the draft forum.

Dolphins LB Channing Crowder can opt out of his rookie deal this offseason.
Crowder, a third-round pick in 2005, led the team in tackles despite missing the last month with a knee injury. There's a lot of uncertainty in Miami right now, but it's likely that retaining Crowder will be a priority for Bill Parcells.

i got that from rotoworld
