Should teams just pound the heck out of Reggie Wayne...ala Marshall Faulk?

I know Manning has other weapons but Reggie Wayne just runs free all the time and is always open. Should teams do what the Pats did to Plaxico on occassion? Put a linebacker opposite him and pound him at the line?

Why not just double cover Clark and jam the heck out of Reggie Wayne and hit in the five yard zone?

I think manning would get frustrated and start forcing the ball. I personally would concede 5 yard runs and short routes and see how that plays out in the beginning.

It seems like the Colts go as Reggie Wayne does.

Hmm, well I guess that's basically what teams try to do with Moss, but they double him on top of it.

Being physical with any great receiver comes with the potential price of them beating the DB off the line and running free. I guess, with any top receiver like Moss or Wayne, it comes down to the lesser of two evils, and playing up, and being physical at the line is probably the lesser.

Its a decent idea if Anthony Gonzalez and/or Marvin Harrison doesn't play (Gonzalez numbers are really very good the last part of the season). Too, if you double Clark you now got two LBs commited and a Safety. That leaves you a 6 man front basically or Addai with one on one in a check down Versus a linebacker. Then if you handle all of that they'll run Ben Utecht right down the seam on a post.

Too Reggie is a bigger receiver, alot of times its hard to manhandle him consistently.

If Gonzalez is healthy you can put Asante on him or a shut down corner, but you better bring pressure because there isn't any corner that can cover forever.

If you want to watch a way to play the Colts, its the way Pitt plays, a 3/4, like that Pats, but they run 8 or 9 guys to the line of scrimage, screws up Peyton trying to figure out what he is seeing and it messes up O line blocking assignments. NE did this with Rodney Harrison last game, dude lined up as the Joker or whatever you want to term it, and it really was disruptive.

yeah the pats basically put rodney in as a lb to cover clark(much like they did to witten). basically creating a nickle defense which was susceptible to running on first down. but the pats were willing to live with that. rodney had a tough time stopping the run at times giving up huge weight to an O-lineman
