Okay ... strap on the lie detector.

Do you really have confidence in Hobbs?

For me the answer is no. I feel we have a good enough defense to compensate for him ...
I think he has the ability  to be better and that's why I have no confidence in him.
With all that athletic ability he should be a ball hawk ... and he is not ... oh well ...

party on Garth :D ... party on Wayne :D

gimme a break dude.he stepped up in the playoffs last year. he always does. the refs just shafted him like they did with asante in the broncos playoff game.

and if you are going to say he allows completions. it's a function of the zone defense. in the pitt game it was actually sanders who blew coverage on najeh davenport. breakdowns happen occassionally.

the defense got better last night when they blitzed more.

i love hobbs competitive nature. i'm comfortable with him.

I go back and forth between "he's terrible" and "he's not as bad as he looks because other teams won't try to pick on Samuel."

Yeah ... that's about where I am. I think I expect too much from him. I mean an athlete like that should be able to jump out of his cleats. The Assante factor does weigh in heavily here and it's hard to judge watching on TV. I don't think he's terrible, I think I expect too much from him.

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

I don't think he's as physically gifted as Samuel. He's short and he's not smooth.

Having said that, I feel he'll have a good playoffs because he hustles like hell and he has a lot of heart. Gave up 6 inches to Plaxico, or more?

I see at least one high pick for corner and a move to nickel where he'll be a star like Terrel Buckley.

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

it's a 53 player roster in the cap era. not everyone is going to be a pro bowl candidate. for my money, hobbs has weaknesses, for which his teammates compensate, but, in the end, he steps up. that's enough for me. i have confidence in the guy as part of our defense.

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

Hobbs was beat like a rented mule in the first half vs the Giants. He did have that big pick in the second half though so maybe he stepped up his game. And yes I did see Asante gamble once and give up 1 TD.
When you give up passing TDs to Eli Manning, there's something not quite right there.

Pats will look at the problem, diagnoze it, and try to scheme a fix. BB is a genius at these things, or so i hear...

I have no confidence in him at all.

Never accused him of laying down ... just asking if fans have confidence. This thread is not a Hobbs Sucks thread. I'm just asking if he makes fans nervous?

No ... I know that and I'm not saying that.

Yes ... but that is compensation. Belichick really does not
like to blitz so when he does you know he is compensating.

I like that also ... he's fierce and not a quitter.
Like I said ... I think he's better and I'm just wondering
why I don't get to see it. Is it the system? Is he not allowed
to ball hawk? I just wish once in a while I'd get to see that
awesome leaping ability that he has ... it's somewhere.

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

Here's my thoughts on Hobbs.

This guy is a #3 corner in this league. He is a # 2 for us which is of course a weakness.

If he kept his mouth shut and did a little less dancing on the field, he wouldn't draw so much attention to himself when he gets scorched..

As far as getting scorched, he gets scorched a little too often.

He's too small. Asante is about the same height but Samuel is a smart heady player. Hobbs plays dumb way too often.

In short.....No confidence. But you play with what you have.

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

Let me first say that I love Hobbs. I like his hustle, his determination, and the fact that he's somewhat of an underdog (mainly because of his height). I used to have a lot of faith in him.

I recognize that i have very high expectations, but I do worry about him sometimes. That being said, not many teams have two pro bowl corners and I am fine with him being our #2. He also still has time to develop a little more.

Hobbs gave up 8 inches 5'9" to 6'5".

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

He'll give his all but he can be caught out. Do I have confidence in him? I think any guy who gives 100% deserves a degree of confidence because you know sooner or later he'll be there to make a play, like he did last night. Like I say he can be caught out and has been a few times this season, but for me he's a good little player.

I did p!ss myself laughing though when he had handbags with Plaxico and Hobbs flew on his back when he got pushed. I need to see that again...

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

I have the most confidence that BB and crew know better than the sum of the posters on this board. So, who cares.

Re: Okay ... Confess ... Do You Really Have Confidence In Hobbs?

Hobbs isnt a Pro Bowler, cmon now. He's getting it done. The guy gets thrown on all game, and with the scheme he never switches sides so he's often matched up one on one with great WRs. But didnt he have the HUGE INT last night that helped put NE up? Why hammer the guy today after such a significant play and game? Shut up and enjoy the win.

Of course I have confidence in Hobbs. I'd be a fool not to.

Hey, Hobbs very well could have saved a perfect season last night with his interception.

How about a bit of godamn respect for at least a few days.

Godamn bastards.

Plastico is also a top flight receiver too, who was playing as motivated as I've seen all year. Hobbs is what we thought he was, a 3rd year pro learning his craft opposite one of the elite corners in the league (i.e. he gets picked on more). About 90% of the rest of the league's #2 corners and about 50% of the #1 would not have fared any better against Plastico (and an accurate, relaxed Eli) last night.

Do I have 100% confidence? Not really, but in BB I trust.

If Hobbs responsibility is the deep zone, you can't expect him to break up plays underneath him on in-cuts. Everything I've heard from BB and his teammates suggests that everyone in the patriots organization has confidence in Hobbs. I don't have confidence in any secondary or any CB to lock down anyone without pressure on the QB. And then sometimes there's just nothing you can do when a QB makes a good throw and a receiver makes a good catch (see the Plaxico catch in the 1st quarter).

I am amazed that Assante doesn't get tested deep when the opponents get a 1 on 1 with him. I am stunned and happy and how often teams will stay away from Samuel throughout most of the game. I guarantee if teams wanted to pick on Samuel, sure he'd have some INTs along the way but he'd be scorched for some plays deep too, just like every CB in the game.

To sum it up, YES I have confidence in Hobbs. I'll never forget how he took over for that incompetent Duane Starks either! :)

honestly i thought the giants were idiots when they were havving success with plax lined up against hobbs then they flipped plax opposite asante.

and then they ran twice and threw on third down(called the herm edwards offense)
