Wilfork's eye poke

The intent, to me, also was less than it appeared. I don't think he was trying to poke him in the eye but to point his finger like a parent saying "cut it out".

You should change your name to "BryantGumbleFan"

it's tough to watch one of our guys lose his cool like that, but i quickly add that i have no idea what i would do under similar pressure or circumstances. if there is a precedent, then the commissioner will have to follow it. if he has leeway, then hopefully it's only a fine. but that was a really "unpatriot" thing to do.

I would hope that wasn't the intent. Regardless,if an opposing team's player did the same to our player there would be fans screaming for a suspension. Not to admit otherwise would make you a homer.

Is Warren Sapp playing today? What he did was worse than what Wilfork did, IMHO. Did any of the Baltimore Ravens players get suspended for their actions at the end of our game with them earlier in the season? Heck if I'm not mistaken, one of those players went after a ref in that game and all he got was a fine. None of those instances made what Wilfork did right. He was wrong, PERIOD. And I hope that he appologizes for his actions. But to suspend him for that is kind of over the top, IMO. I have seen much worse take place this season and the players in question didn't get suspended for it.
ESPN needs to calm down.

There was no eye poke.

Wilfork was POINTING, not poking, at Jacobs.

Imagine being angry on the field and pointing at a guy repeatedly saying, 'you're going down'.

That's basically what happened. This thread title sucks because there was NO POKE, and no intention to poke. The use of the word poke is misleading and silly.

Is there any question at all that if one of the giants had done the same thing to Maroney or Moss, that we would be calling for his suspension?

I too hope that we have Wilfork playing in the first playing game, but he doesn't deserve to play.

We are all crossing our fingers and hoping that the Commissioner doesn't do what he would OBVIOUSLY do at any other time in the season. We are begging for mercy from the Commissioner because we need the player. If the player were Spann or another player at the bottom of the roster, we would likely not care as much. Should the NFL, really be run this way? Should they give Wilfork a fine, and wish the patriots good luck in the playoffs? Should the Commissioner condone such behavior from a pro-bowler, or should he set an example.

I think this post is crazytalk.

I am embarrassed that you consider yourself a patriot fan.

..not my problem. I see what he did in a different light than you. There was no intent to injure and no harm was done. I don't think he even contacted his skin. A 15 yard grabbing the facemask is worse than that. Vrabel and Mankins probably took him out to dinner. I respect your opinion, but I think the whole thing is overblown. We also have no idea what Jacobs said or did to prompt VW. A lot of stuff goes on we never know about that the camera doesn't pick up. My choice is to reserve judgement.

Is there any question at all that if one of the giants had done the same thing to Maroney or Moss, that we would be calling for his suspension?

Is there any question if the same pointing was directed at Maroney or Moss, that the TV announcers would have ignored it, it would a non-issue, and there would definitely be no suspensions?

Wilfork's finger made it into Jacobs's helmet, past his face mask. He got close to Jacobs's eye, which makes it dangerous. That's the most important thing to consider.

That's exactly what I saw, too.
This is just more straws to grasp at for the haters.

"I did NOT have sex with that woman"

I guess it depends on what the meaning of the word "poke" is.

Yikes. This sounds like one of our own blowing this out of proportion just like the media. Its hard for me to believe that you can know whether or not Vince deserves to play based on one play that you witnessed watching on TV. This is what is wrong with this country. Everyone wants to make knee jerk reactions and opinions, just so they could be "right".

Lets stop pretending we know all and let these things work them out for themselves. Will I be happy if he's suspended? No. But in context, it certainly doesn't seem likely.

I wouldn't be calling for anyone's suspension for it, even if it was Peyton Manning before an AFC champs game.

Seymour should have been suspended last year (2 years ago?) for the "stamp" incident, but I think the Wilfork thing was much ado about nothing. It was stupid as heck, but certainly not malicious or intended to injure.

After Seymour stomped on Glenn he had a series of personal foul penalties go against him that were ridiculous. He'll get fined and now anything that's even close to a late hit he's going to get flagged. That's the biggest downside I just hope it's not at a crucial time.

one fan's point is another fan's poke in they eye. he put his finger inside his mask. end of story. if he was pointing he would have "pointed" at his chest or helmet. sorry. we can't have it both ways. if someone did that moss or tommy, i'd be screaming.

Well I guess they should just stop playing football then.
After all, it is a very dangerous sport.
The only thing Vince is guilty of is pointing too close to face.

But that's why they wear helmets and face masks, to protect the head and face. Just because football can be violent, that doesn't excuse actions that lie clearly outside the realm of normal play. A hard hit is fine, getting near someone's eyes is not.

A little while later he and Jacobs were patting each other on the back. Big Vince will get fined for it but he didn't cause injury and he didn't get flagged and I don't think his intent was to poke Jacobs in the eye.

Agreed, it will probably be like Mankins crotch punch, a simple fine and a lot of embarrassment for being so blatant about it!
