To me the biggest problem the team has faced since their first blowouts of the season has been lack of intensity at the outset of games. It looks as if they come out playing at a notch below the other teams' level, who are obviously playing their personal super bowls. To their credit they do respond, and by the time they crank up their own intensity level, it's game over.

But that was in the relatively boring regular season, and there will be no such problem in the playoffs.

I think their biggest problem disappeared last night.

The problem is people like yourself doubting them.

so you think 28-0 against the fins is lack of intensity?

On the contrary, I think the Pats have had to weather many teams BEST effort of not just the game, but their entire season in some of these first halfs.
Baltimore played like the Ravens of old for 59 minutes. If they executed like that all season they'd be in the playoffs.
Philly played one of their top 2 games all year against the Pats.

The Jets game was a weather nightmare.

The Colts game... well it's the Colts. There's a lot of feeling out and adjustments being made in those games, not to mention the huge disparity in penalty yardage.

They have every team coming at them putting out their maximum effort, taking huge risks (sometimes paying off) and leaving each game wasted, two or three players injured, demoralized and junk for the next four games. Also, they have beaten five (I think) playoff teams with a possible total of SEVEN PLAYOFF TEAMS by the end of today (if Browns and 'Skins can get in). I saw no consistent weakness in this team at any point this season. They sucked it up whenever they had to in every phase of the game.

Who said I doubted them?

I pointed out an obvious fact.

My statement was a generalization, and probablly true of the teams that had an actual shot (Eagles, Ravens, Giants, et al.)

Do you have a problem admitting that the team has not been as pumped and jacked as, say, a Ravens team at the outset?

You mean a Ravens team that ended the season mired in their worst losing streak in franchise history? So what did coming out all pumped and jacked do for the Ravens...

Pumped and jacked doesn't win NFL football games, just ask Pete Carroll.

IMO biggest problem is age at key positions on defense. This age is the reason the D lacks energy for every game late in the year. They can't gin up the emotion every week. Also a lack of speed at the 2nd level. Against physically talented offenses they get beaten up. I expect that the divisional rd, and the SB, with 2 weeks of rest, the D will have enough rest and energy to put forth a good effort. But in the AFCCG, with only 1 week off, I worry a bit about facing a SD or Indy team. The homefield crowd, the elements and the O will have to carry the Pats through that game.

I also think the injury to Colvin has been underestimated by some, including me. Colvin brought energy with his personality to the D, and allowed the other old LBers to rest. He was more solid than any other LB but Vrabel on the roster at setting edge. His loss has been very painful.

No kidding!! Lot's of doubters in here. Several similar posts "expressing their concerns"

So why am I a doubter? I had fewer doubts and nerves than you did.

My comment was about the intensity level at the *outset*. Can you read English sentences? This was mentioned by Tom after the game. The Pats had to catch up to the initial intensity of the Giants.

Or didn't you notice?

I agree, what this did was stimy the Pats ability to rotate and rest their LB's, and use them in much different combinations than they are able to do now. This creativity has effected them much more than we know. Instead of using Thomas the way we were, we are pretty much stuck in his role now.

I have not seen this "collapse" of the aging LBs as a factor at all. I know that some people claim that it's going to be a problem, but I saw Rodney and Junior flying around in the last quarter, and in high intensity games I cannot remember seeing them collapse.

I thought the Colts' pass rush collapsed against us, though.

I thought last night our guys did not get pressure on Manning early, but did late, which is directly opposed to the theory that they can't finish strongly. I think, as Tom mentioned after the game, they had to match the intensity level of the Gints. Once they got it up to speed, game over.

No, I have no problems with the age of our guys. I do have problems with Hobbs' level of play, though. I don't think he's that hot, but I think we hide him about as well as possible. They sure do pick on him though.

They've played a few teams who left their best football in the first quarter.

This may "seem" to be a problem to you, but realize they are human and are pacing themselves for a 60 minute game.

Plus they usually score on their first drive, would you like them to do cartwheels too?

Their pace has led to success 16 times in the regular season which is more than anyone else can say.

The pats got pressure on Eli in 2nd half because they started blitizing.

Hobbs is thrown to alot more than Asante. and when teams get completions on him it is largely a part of zone coverage. The Pats are willing to give up underneath stuff more so than letting any receiver get behind the safeties.

No FRICKIN' kidding, Einstien. And what does that have to do with the fact that I mentioned?

You didn't hear what Tom said after the game did you? He said it before I did. Why don't you go ***** at him?

Relax man. No sense getting all worked up over this stuff.

Apparently the New England Patriots lack the intensity you must harness everyday. Since this was only the third game that they didn't score on the first drive and it took sixteen games before the allowed an opening drive touchdown, Patriot fan are only left what could possible be if you were able to rev them up with a pre-game motivational speech.
If you don't understand what you are watching why don't you just keep quiet and smile politely
