Watson had one catch where he appeared to fall down unnecessarily, one where he appeared to fall out of bounds necessarily, and one where he appeared to pass up yardage because he ran out of bounds east-west rather than turning upfield.

That's out of four catches on the day.

What's his problem?

I doubt it's as simple as an aversion to getting hit, given how hard he plays otherwise.

looks like Tarzan plays like Jane.

watson's had a tough 2nd half.

especially that horrible effort against baltimore. my patience is truly wearing thin with him, better step his sh!t up in the playoffs

I think his play today in the first half was not good but I give credit to him for his excellent catching in the second half and keep in mind he is just coming back from a injury (foot injury, I think).

i like Watson a lot but hes dissapointing me a bit. hes very fast/strong/athletic but hes inconsistent catching balls. he makes tough grabs diving, etc but he cant catch easy ones at times. hes not intimidating when he has the ball because he doesnt try to punish you. he tries to outrun you and once u hit him, he'll go down. i think there are questions about his toughness because i cant think of other reasons. it wasnt really until this year that hes gone down that easily so it could be the ankle and not wanting to push off it too much to drive a guy off but i really wanna see him step up and be what he was supposed to be and what he led us on to be when he was the primary target once.

I don't know what specific things Watson needs to work on, but man does he need to. He seems to have severe problems breaking tackles to the point where I don't feel at all comfortable passing to him in 3rd down situations.

You have to admit it's kind of sad when you'd rather have Welker and the ball 1:1 against a corner or safety than Watson with the ball 1:1 against the same.

agreed. besides that Jaguar playoff game..i dont recall seeing him push people around..not a corner, safety or linebacker

Hopefully it was a case of him being a bit too cautious coming off his ankle injury. If he's still running sideways in the playoffs then there may be a problem.

LMAO, I just spit cranberry juice all over my keyboard.

cranberry juice? why you got your period?
sorry, couldn't resist it. Line from The Departed

Great Pic , willl definitely frame it.

not as big of a problem as him catching and then going down on first contact. corners seem to take him down with ease really. a guy built like him should catch it and demand 2-3 guys to bring him down

He fights the ball instead of catching it, which causes drops and gets him drilled because he struggles to take the ball in stride. He just needs to work on those hands. I really think that if he can improve the hands, the added confidence that would bring him could have a huge impact upon the rest of his game.

yeah iv'e noticed he always looks at ball a little too long after he catches it (not confident that hes got it and so worried about securing it or seems shocked sometimes)

i think he would be a lot better if he just caught it and ran all in 1 quick process but he slows down..catches it and starts to run again.

1 problem leads to another (hands --> yac)

Says it all.

Too bad that Dave Thomas was needlessly, and foolishly, activated from the PUP list before the start of the season. He would have made Bumblin' Bennie irrelevant.

Bring back Wiggie from Eastie.

He's athletic as hell on paper, but it doesn't seem to translate to the field.

I was thinking the same thing as Fencer. He's another guy that you wonder if he's injured, because he always is.

Who knows if he ever realizes that upside consistently? The way I look at it is he's on the squad and he's an average tight end right now. If he's still an average TE come contract time, then it's an issue.

Let's get them healthy for the playoffs.

TE #3, what happened to Rivers, did he take a dump in somebody's laundry basket?

Do we still have shnack, or whatever his name is?

Rivers was dropping Brady TDs in the endzone. I saw Spach on the sidelines; he's 82.

Forgot about Thomas, he does look promising.

I think we should forget about Wiggins, lest the harsh light of reality tarnish our imaginary extension of his one big game.

Plural? If dropping TDs got you dropped we would have cut our last two #1 picks by season two. I wonder how many Watson has dropped in the end zone?

I'm curious if other posters saw multiple drops from him. Could it be he was a practice season star who got nervous when it counted?

Sorry, Spach. He kind of snuck up on me.:D

he doesn't trust his hands, so he feels the need to go to the ground and catch the ball against his chest. If it's anything across the middle he slides down and lets the ball hit him in the chest. He should be getting YAC with all that speed but he cant use it if he's on the ground.
