Our proudest Moment

As a fan of several sports and as a life-time fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics & Bruins, tonight may rank as our proudest moment in New England sports history.

Yeah, yeah, I know...the Red Sox winning their first world series since 1918 ranks right up their with the Super Bowl victories, the Stanley Cup and the NBA world championships...but.

Their is no other sport where men literally shed their blood, sweat & tears more so than in the sport of professional football. To go 16-0 with as many come-from-behind victories as our Patriots had this season and to have them come from their largest deficit of the year tonight in front of the entire country brought tears to my eyes.

When I think about Rodney Harrison coming back from his almost career ending knee surgery and Junior Seau's arm hanging limp & broken in the middle of last season, tonight just satisfied me more fully than anything I've watched the Patriots accomplish in my life time.

Maybe I'm a little soft because so many of these Patriots are "Old" like me. Or maybe it's the fact that I saw a group of 40 proud men who I see as very humble & classy accomplish what they did in the face of their season of criticism, mockery & condemnation. And they never once mentioned any of this in their post-game interviews. Tonight I saw our New England Patriots stand tall in the face of adversity and they came out victorious...once again.

Congratulations to Mr Kraft, Bill Belichick, the players and the entire organization!

It was a very very special moment. Yes there are all the championships that have been one but the Pats just did something that has only once been done before, 30 some years ago. It is remarkable. We are so damn lucky to be fans of the Patriots.

This was incredible stuff and I'm as die-hard a Patriot fan as I know, however, I can't really put this win above the 2001 SB (or even the 2004 Red Sox win). Those ones produced tears. This was satisfying on so many levels, but there is still work to do before I get too emotional

I can dig where you are coming from though.

Haven't had a drink since 1989, so my comments came straight from the heart. We all experience things differently, so I understand it may not have the same meaning to others as it did to me.

I hope if they do they finally get a fan base deserving of what they have already done and continue to do. There is sickening segment of the current fan base that really, more than anything, deserves another couple of 2-14 seasons... Of course they probably wouldn't be anywhere to be found were that to happen.

Would going 16-1 and losing to Jacksonville still make you feel this way? How is that better than the San Francisco 49ers championship team that went 18-1?

Tonight is significant as a step along a journey that is not complete. I just don't see tonight's win as being significant at all in and of itself. It's hugely significant to the extent it keeps in order the possibility of doing something no team has ever done before, but other than that, I'm just not seeing how this is even close to winning the first super bowl (or any of them) or to what the Sox did in 2004 or 2007.

If the Patriots don't win in 2 weeks, they will have failed to get even as far as they got last year, despite several major free agency pick ups.

Glad they won and kept perfection in order. I can't possibly see this as a proudest moment.

Actually, no team has gone 16-0 in the regular season, and the Pats have beaten 3 layoff teams on the road, 2 at home, and 2 more of the 5 teams still in contention.

I think what you are saying is valid, but not in this thread. The question being posed in this thread is whether this is the "proudest moment," and I just don't see that.

Doesn't mean I can't appreciate just how unbelievably mindblowing the New England Patriots have been in the last 7 years.

The Beauty of this game was not only did the team , Brady and Moss get their records, but It was truly a TEAM victory. This game was played well on all phases....passing, running, defense etc. hopefully with a week off this team really comes out firing on ALL cylinders for the run to 19 and done!

PFAZ...A 16-0 regular season is a mind boggling accomplishment in & of itself...regardless of what happens. It happened tonight in case you missed it. But if you plan on only enjoying it "if" they win the SB, that's your mistake. I'm fully relishing in it TONIGHT...and probably for the next week or so. I don't wait to celebrate the greatest of accomplishments, maybe you do.

This game was played well on all phases....passing, running, defense etc.

Interesting that people see it this way. I guess the final score makes things look different in hindsight. I thought it was played very well on offense. I thought it was played decently on defense, in a bend by don't break sense. I thought it was played horribly on special teams, or at least approaching horribly. I thought it was played not particularly well between the ears and I'd like to think that a team with championship aspirations could keep its head a bit better and not give in to opposing players' taunting.

I thought it was played perfectly on the scoreboard, though. And I agree that the cast of characters responsible for the win was quite large.

Techinically, it's been done three times before. The 1972 Dolphins did it as did the 1934 & 1942 Bears.

Now, if you manage to go on to win the Super Bowl, you will definitely be the second ones to do it.

No, we'll actually be the FIRST ones to go 19-0 which is far greater than going 17-0. If you don't agree, then name the last team to 19-0 in one season.

First of all, a fan's proudest moment doesn't have to mean their team did something that no other team did. It doesn't even have to be that great from the perspective of another team's fans. I guess I should have titled the thread, "My proudest moment"

But it would be pretty sad if we as Patriots fans could only consider perfection as our proudest moment. If we won the SB last year with our depleted roster, that would have been MY proudest moment...it's all relative.

Teams win a superbowl every year. Sometimes even a sucky team wins one in a fluke. We've won 3 already. It's been 35 years since a team completed an undefeated season in the NFL. Back then they only played 14 games. We just became the first team in NFL history to compete a 16 game season undefeated. We broke the season scoring record, the TD record, the TD's by a QB record and the TD's by a WR - and probably a few others.

A segment of this fan base is beyond spoiled, their ingrates.

If you want to break it down like that, than you must concede that the Dolphins and the teams before them had it harder in that they did not have the benefit of all the rules that protect players today, especially the passer. The game was a lot more vicious back then.

But let's not bog down this night in the details. Enjoy your achievement and welcome to the club.

Welcome to the club? You mean your team has 3 super bowls too?

P.S. The salary cap more than compensates for the viciousness of the game back in the day. It was so easy for a team to load up on star players back then. Kinda like the Red Sox & the Yankees do now.
