We had 3d and 4 on the 16. If we get the first down, we either score a TD or run down the clock. Brady throws into double coverage in the end zone, albeit a mismatch, and we kick the field goal and leave 2:00 on the clock.

I can't believe we don't have a play that can get 4 yards.

Oh no! We don't have a play that's a lock for 4 yards on a short field against a good defense!

Agree 100%. Pursuit of these damn records has Brady making really dumb decisions. He kills a drive deep in Giant territory because he refuses to look underneath for the 1st down and forces a ball to a double covered Moss in the endzone. How about getting the 1st down and THEN look for Moss in the endzone Tom? This is a pattern with Brady over the past month or so (killing drives and putting the defense back on the field by forcing the ball to a well covered Moss) thats going to kill this team at a critical juncture in the playoffs he doesn't get his head out of Randy's a%^.
Worse thing to happen to the continuity of this offense is pursuit of these records.
The lost Patriots momentum of that 1st half sits squarely on the shoulders of Tom Brady. Very poor game management that's happening for all the wrong reasons.

I'm just saying I didn't like throwing into the end zone. If you don't pick up the 4, fine, just kick. But a first down there was worth 7 points. Maybe 11.

Moss had 1 on 1 coverage with a linebacker with the safety coming over to late. It bounced off the LBs head.

Fluke.

Maybe they were expecting the Giants to play a run as the Giants would also assume they'd go for a 4 yard rush and therefore they decided to go for a game-over TD instead?

It is impossible for me to agree with this post any more than I already do. Very, very well said. Moss gave the NJG a TD because of his stupid, selfish spike, and TB gave them another TD because of his blind greed.

This Indy Dolts/STL Rams pass-fest will not cut it in Foxborough in January. Do you understand that, too, Skippy?

Many levels, all of them dubious and/or wrong:

(A) The celebration penalty was on Maroney, not Moss. [Spiking the ball is 5 yards, not 15, and spiking is specifically allowed on touchdowns.]
(B) It was not greed on Brady's part. It was Brady trying to get Moss the reception record. I am absolutely, 100% convinced that if Brady had to choose between breaking Manning's record OR having Moss break Rice's, he'd gladly take the latter. [Yes, I know that he couldn't do it without getting the record himself. But I'm talking about a hypothetical situation where he could have one without the other.]
(C) I would think that Brady knows there's no style points, so to speak, in the playoffs. Don't expect to see Brady forcing it to Moss then.

Arrogance and ignorance, the deadly duo... It never ceases to amaze me how many of these duos we still have here. You'd think following a BB team for any length of time they'd have at least learned some basic fundamentals of how the pro game is played by sheer osmosis...

You don't get points for a first down.

That's the play where Moss was covered by a linebacker? Ha ha. No, you wouldn't try to exploit that.

I like how people can sit on a message board and take 10 minutes to compose a 2 sentence message and then complain because one of Brady's split seconds decisions didn't quite work out. Brady made the right choice there, it just didn't work out.

Moss on a LB = pass attempt for Moss

I said it in the game thread as it was happening.

If you haven't seen the incredible advantage that a team gets by winding the clock down in the red zone at the end of the half when they have the second half kick off, I'm not going to convince you of it. It's a backbreaker. Colts did it to us in the AFCCG. Put another way, the point value of giving your opponent the ball back with 2:00 to play and time outs outweighs the incremental added value of going for the TD with the 2:00 left.

If you're calculating what increases your odds of winning the game, I maintain that in that situation the risk/reward ratio of a first down that does not score the TD with 2:00 left is higher -- probably significantly higher -- than a TD. For all the talk about linebacker on Moss or split second decisions, there is simply no reason to be throwing for the end zone there. If it's wide open, I suppose you take it. But even then, I'm not sure it's the higher percentage play in good conditions. Probably, but not by much.

Maybe the defense was stacked to prevent the first down and going over the top was the correct play. Tough to tell on tivo. I doubt it.

not only did we WIN, but brady GOT THE RECORDS! what the hell are you complaining about? yeah so he tried to force it to get the records. whats the matter with that if he succeeds? WRONG REASONS? get your head out of your hole and appreciate what brady did instead of *****in about how he did it.

Honestly, what completely idiotic points. Too much wrong here and I'm sure - and comforted - that others will slam you more specifically for this unmitigated B.S.

Now here's something I can agree 100% with. What further puzzles me is the vitriol with which some of these guys present their stupid opinions. What the hell are they so mad about? The Pats are 16 and frickin' 0!!

we had a lot of bad decisions.

-Harrison and his constant talking/fighting
-Wilfork putting his hands in Jacob's face
-Samuel biting on an underneath guy and pulling himself BARELY away from the ball

-bad playcalls.
-not staying aggressive all game (it showed badly)

Well, don't lump me in with the arrogance etc. posters who have tacked on to my thread.

My point is a different one about risk/reward in the red zone in the last two minutes of a half when you have the kick off coming in the second half.

Why is it not fair game to make a point like this without getting attacked with the "fire BB" nonsense coming back.

Other than the kick off return, it was the single most important play in the game in terms of keeping the Giants close and in it. It also was contrary to how the patriots usually play red zone late in the first half.
