Im looking at the starters that year and it says they ran a 4-3

DE - Bobby Hamilton
DT - Ted Washington
DT - Richard Seymour
DE - Jarvis Green
OLB - Roman Phifer
MLB - Tedy Bruschi
OLB - Mike Vrabel

I could of swore they ran a 3-4 that year. But that was so long ago for me I could be wrong.

It says Green started 7 Games that year. Willie McGinest started 11 games but they have him listed as a DE in 2003.

big willie was the fourth linebacker, and seymour was at end. its probably bill's way of screwing with people, claiming random starters like he claims random injuries

We did run a 4-3.

We also ran a 3-4, 2-5 and 1-10 amongst other permutations.

The Pats ran a base 3-4 the whole season. Mawae broke Ted W's leg, and he was out 6 games. Jarvis became a starter. Seymour missed 2 games, one of them the Monday nighter at Denver. Klecko started that game. Colvin was the starting OLB until breaking his hip, forcing McGinest off the bench to reclaim his starter's job at strong side OLB. Vrabel played the weak side.

Washington got hurt, and Ty Warren played nose. Jarvis played Warren's spot. In a 3-4.

It was a 3-4 all year.

Yeah, Belichick consistently played 11 defensive players at a time.......:)

They were prepared to play a 3-4 with Rick Lyle, Green or Klecko at NT.

Once they acquired Washington it was cinched as the base D. I remember Warren did a great job at the nose but don't remember everything else that's been posted.

Hamilton is listed with 46 tackles, so I guess they played more 4-3 than I thought. Probably while big Ted was down.

Hamilton doesn't really fit anywhere in a 3-4.

2002, jerkoff steve martin is listed as NT.

No such designation in 2001, lots of DE/DT, Hamilton has 79tackles instead of mid 50s.

Seems like they used a 4-3 for a while more than they wanted to take advantage of Hamilton's experience.

They also had McGoo switch from OLB/DE on the fly, of course.

Seems like they committed to the 3-4 in 2002, but used what worked best based on personnel.
