I think there's a greater chance of the Giants winning the Superbowl. Why?
Two words: hatred & jealousy. Just read the mediot's columns across the nation. And the fan message boards ouside of NE. To the media, the Pats were favored to win anyway, so what has Bill accomplished? To irrational fans outside NE, the Pats are the Cheatriots. We don't get the highest TV ratings because of love. Fans all over are praying for the Big Stumble.

Does Coach care? Do his players? I think what they and their true fans care about is their fourth Vince. And they are transforming this negative energy into an historic quest. So eff the haters!

Right now Mike McCarthy is the favorite, with Jack Del Rio, **** Jauron and Romeo getting some mention. It will be a very small consolation prize, while they witness BB hoist the big prize in one of the greatest feats of NFL history.

Bill got it in 2003, and in a way the media has transformed it into an insult to the team. At some point the self appointed guardians of all things PC turned it into an award for the coach who does the most with the least, as opposed to the best HC in the league. Maybe they didn't like some of the candidates back in the day...or got tired of giving the award to the same consistently good coaches all the time...

They don't necessarily follow their own interpretation either or Dungy should not have won it in 2005 when the D he was hired to coach up still stunk and the all world offense he inherited was still putting up mega stats. But who are we as mere fans to judge...

It has been at times of late the kiss of death - I'm sure Lovie Smith and Sean Payton would give it back in a heartbeat for a couple of more wins the following season. In the end it's expectations got Schotsie fired.

The at times annoyingly pompous and increasingly out of touch and incorrect now that he's a "national" mediot Tom Curren has a vote in the AP version, and he insisted yesterday on WEEI that he will not vote for BB. I guess with this talent undefeated was a given... He also of course insists there is little interest in our week 17 game outside of NE except among those in the media looking to push ratings.

Whatever...at this point it's a little like the commercial that asks, what comes after a dynasty. Belichick is the coach of the decade, if not a generation.

Patriot posters do not make the determination, so no Belichick won't be the coach of the year.

What greatness should be assigned to taking this team to the Super Bowl? The front office took last year's team, which wasn't good enough (!!!???) and added Thomas, Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Morris, and Kyle Brady. Everyone from the day of the draft had the patriots as odds on favorites to be in the Super Bowl. Belichick has done absolutely nothing extraordinary this year. Personally, I have no doubt at all that if he had been suspended for half the year, the results would have been the same. He is the coach and chief architect of the patriot dynasty. He is not coach of the year.

If they beat the Giants and have the perfect season. There will only be two votes. "BB" and "anyone but BB". The results will tell us exactly how relavent that award really is. Quite simple.

My gut tells me, it has no relavence and someone else will get it. Doesn't matter who.

It's more a team award than anything & with our's being the only one in HISTORY to go potentially 16-0 in the regular season I see no other choice for COY. Especially so when you look at the competition we've faced this season. If the Browns get in we've beaten 4 of the 5 other AFC playoff teams. :rocker:

Methinks BB wants the SB trophy more than the Coach of the Year, even if he deserves it.

Unless you are extending the metaphor to "speak for" the media, and your words are what you think THEY think, I have to say that of the numerous idiotic things you've spewed over the years, this may be just the latest.

There will be lots of people hyping McCarthy or whoever, and that would be fine if this team was 13-3, 14-2, but to not give the HC of an undefeated team the Coach of the Year Award is INSANE. And it would NEVER happen with Dungy or Fox or Cower or Parcells or anyone else. It's ONLY because it's Belichick.

It is true.

It is perfectly ordinary for a coach to have his team start the regular season 15-0. After all it has happenned......um....never?

Does he deserve it? Absolutely. Will he get it? Absolutely not. If he wins, I'll eat my shoe. The media hates him even more now, no way he wins.

Coach of The Year Award? You must mean the "Tony Dungy Overcoming Adversity Award", yes? Screw who's the better coach, it's all about who bakes the reporters cookies!

Exactly... something like that is hardly worthy of recognition.

Thanks - I'm glad it's not just me he strikes that way...

mg seems to believe that the franchise is the success here, and in some kind of immaculate vacuum.

Belichick and Brady are just a couple of fortunate JAGS who landed in a great location Parcells and Bledsoe (and maybe even Rod Rust...) laid the foundation for against all odds given the new owner wasn't terribly bright either...

If Belichick had been suspended for half the year, how many games do you think the team would have lost? How much was Belichick's COACHING worth this year, compared to others. Personally, I think a lot of coaches, including many of our assistants could have done what Belichick did this year. I understand your position, that the COY award should ahve nothing to do with coaching, but rather it should be a team achievement award. I just disagree.
For example, I think coaches in Jax, Cleveland and Buffalo all did great jobs with what they had.

Some people would think that keeping his team prepared and focused enough that they win every game is a great coaching achievement for Belichick this year. Then there is you who seems to think that anyone could have done it. HOF coaches with equally dominant teams have always failed in trying to do it in the past but I'm sure Pepper Johnson would have accomplished it.

What exactly was the great coaching achevment in Cleveland or Buffalo? Coaching mediocre players to mediocrity in Romeo's case or slightly less than mediocre players to slightly less than mediocrity in Jauron's case?

In Romeo's case, his team no showed in the biggest game of their season last week. How is that coach of the year worthy?

Then why don't we just dispense with the voting and automatically give it to the coach of the team who won the SB.

BB has done a great job managing a great team.

He had not had to manage thru the plague of injuries like other teams. And 16-0 is only 1-3 games better than expectations. Did anybody have the Pats pegged to be worse than 13-3?

If Washington beats Dallas this week, and the Redskins go to the playoff after rallying after being down and losing Taylor I could see the Redskins coach winning it.

Do you factor in to this that the only reason the Skins aren't already in the playoffs is because their coach lost them a game against Buffalo by not knowing NFL rules?

If you downplay the importance of Belicheck's coaching contributions, I doubt you understand the importance of coaching.

If other coaches were/are able to produce 15-0 seasons, why aren't they doing it?

i believe he will....b/c in reality, there are no other real choices

I do not downplay Belichick's achievments or the importance of coaching. Belichick has established himself as a HOF coach. He has been responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a plan for a dynasty. Bu we are talking about an award for this year. It took a perfect storm for us not to be the SB champion last year. We came into the offseason as one of the three top teams in football. The front office added many top players. They have been few injuries. There has been little adversity. This year's team did not need heroic COY performances by its coaching staff to win. We simpley needed to play he hand we had: A Super Bowl quality team PLUS Moss, Thomas, Stallworth, Welker, and Morris PLUS those like Harrison who weren't available at the end of last year.

The point is not that ANY team can go 15-0. The point is that belichick and the front office had brough this team to position where we expected to easily win our division and likely win at least 13 games. I believe that we wouldn't have lost any more games if Pees or Dante were coaching. Do you disagree?

We did discuss this issue at the beginning of the year, when it seemed possible that Belichick might be suspended. Almost no one here thought that the team would miss a beat.

If you downplay the importance of Belicheck's coaching contributions, I doubt you understand the importance of coaching.

If other coaches were/are able to produce 15-0 seasons, why aren't they doing it?
