Light used to stop good rushers only with a TE (usually Grahambo) helping him out. Now he does so much more often w/o TE help.

Is Mankins making a major difference in the pass blocking?

And in something that's even harder to judge -- is Mankins helping Koppen significantly as well.

Just looking at how they play, Mankins looks like a solid Pro Bowler, Light doesn't, and Koppen is kind of iffy. Hence the questions.

I'm not an expert, but I think all three deserve Pro Bowl. Mankins is just mean. He has an occasional brain fart when he jumps the count, but is o/w superb. Light gets beat an average of once a game, and this what people remember. Koppen has been a rock.

As Brady said after one of his almost always successful fourth down sneaks, which everyone knows is coming, "I just hope our fat guys can push their fat guys enough to move the chains." Credit our line. And I'll never forget the gaping holes these guys provided Maroney on his 50 yard slashes (with a big assist by Evans).

Lets see if they can handle Strahan and Osi:bricks:

more like--lets see if we even hear the names strahan or osi on saturday--Mankins will pave the way

answering the OP--yes--Mankins coming into his own, combined with Koppen the season after signing long term and Light back to full strength and the line having increased time playing together has greatly benefitted all three of them, as well as Tom Brady...it is a continuity thing...

Light cant hang with Osi, B. I've watch Pats all season since thats all the NFl has provided and Light has struggle against speedy rusher and this sat wont be no difference ya dig. I dont even want to get into Kazcur vs Strahan ya dig.

ya dig B.?

that's hot

Eli has been sacked 26 times on 497 attempts

Brady has been sacked 20 times on 537 attempts

I'd call that a wash generally, except that NE has had entire games in which the offense was in a passing mode and they were daring the other team to stop them. 40 additional passing attempts with 6 fewer sacks while Brady has a 117 passer rating tells me that the OL is doing its job just fine. NYG are not the best defense that the NEP have faced, and Osi and Strahan are not the best defensive players that the NEP have faced.

against a consistent 3 man rush, thats impressive B.:bricks: I would rather have a qb who has face numerous blitz packages and a o-line that has blocked for 4 different 100 yard rushers ya dig than a qb who gets knock down on majority of his drop backs

can't use that argument--NEP go into passing formations against PIT, BAL, PHI and pretty much every other team they've played--they don't drop 8--the long-known ONLY tactic to have a chance against Brady is to get after him and to disrupt his timing--no way has any team consistently only rushed 3.

Keep em coming--this is easy.

Blaming light is stupid he is a very smart player.how many times has he tripped a rusher or plain holds them taking a penalty to protect tom brady. He faces freeney, taylor and other fast pass rushers and does good. If JT and freeney are hyped up as so good what about the guy who goes against them every down.

He is good against pittsburg and sandeigo type bigger OLB and DE but struggles a bit against fast rushers. if we get a smaller OT he might have problem with the bigger guys and can handle the smaller faster version so its a wash.

also, remember in the 4th quater when their speed takes a hit he comes on strong.

what we need is a OT with the first pick .last year people look at the trade but instead if we had got joe stanly who the SF took we would have had a better line.......he has allowed 2 sacks from his side playing right tackle.

From what I've watched Light and Mankins are the linemen who most consistantly are singled up in pass blocking. Koppen and Neal/Hochstein usually work in tandem. Kaczur does a lot of one-on-one work as well.

I would say Mankins has helped Neal/Hochstein more than Light or Koppen. Certainly he's helped the offense in general. How many times do you see Kyle Brady brought in to help pass block?

Talking to some SF fans most feel Staley has had a very average rookie year. Some feel he is no better than Kwame Harris. Granted it's his rookie year and he should get some slack but I believe in no way is J Staley better than any of our O-line,starter or depthwise. Sure,if the LT Long from Michigan is there when we pick he could be a Joe Thomas type player and make the line better immediately. I'm not sure if we need a player like that though. But I wouldn't say Staley had the ability to even crack this line to make the team better.

Good eyes. Thanks.

For a while there, I was forgetting that teams traditionally send 4 rushers, not 3 ...

above all, mankins has brought the ATTITUDE. the bearded brothers, the gang of crazy white guys that get drunk toghether in matt lights shack in his back yard. mankins is an animal, and has helped bring out the animal in the rest of the bearded brothers.
