And by The Belichick Factor, I mean the idea that come playoff time, that the fact that Belichick is a genius and smarter than any other coach out there will lead to him create a gameplan bound to F with the other team.

Because of all the talent this team has, The Belichick Factor hasn't come into play much during the regular season. On both sides of the ball, the Pats have just gone out and executed, no surprises.

We saw some game planning defensive-wise against the Cowboys, and the Pats have continued the trend of staying in nicks and dime packages, using Rodney almost as a LB, etc. against passing attacks throughout the season. But that's been pretty much it. Offensively, if anything, this team has announced to the other team what it's going to do (ie, spread) and just gone out and done it.

It's hard to measure exactly how tangible it is, but the TBF (The Belichick Factor) is something to keep in mind as we approach the playoffs, and we start to hear talking heads say things like "The Jags are the team that can beat the Pats..." blah blah blah.

Yes, he was brilliant in the Charger game that San Diego handed to NE on a silver platter and in the AFCCG. Wouldn't you agree?

You know, I hate to agree (sort of) with you but...amongst BB stellar post-season record, he has had some clunkers.

I know you're being sarcastic, but he was. That Chargers team was admittedly more talented than the Pats & was playing at home, the Pats came out on top. That says something about the coaching staff.

This year, the Pats are the more talented team.

Umm...like what? Neither the Colts loss or the Broncos loss can be pinned on him, yet he certainly deserves credit for many of the victories and the gameplanning it took to achieve said victory.

Like the SD and Broncos games...and in the Colts game too. The Colts obviously made some halftime adjustments whereas the Pats didn't make any until it was too late.

the sad part is some people out there don't want BB to be named 'the coach of the year'.

BB should be named 'the coach of the year' because he deserves it. I'll not be happy if he does not receive this title when pats record is 19-0.

What adjustments could they have made on either side of the ball? Manning made adjustments on offense once he saw the Pats were taking the outside from him, yes, but the Patriots counter move should have been to execute better. They didn't have the personnel to defend the middle of the field, so they went out and got AD.

Manning's a great player, BB devised a strategy to throw him off, it worked for a half, provided a huge lead that should've been enough, but it wasn't. Short of running out onto the field and pulling a Tonya Harding vs. Nancy Kerrigan on Manning, I don't see what more BB could've done in that Colts game.

And again, what gameplanning did you object to in the SD game?

If we go 19-0 and Belichick does NOT win Coach of the Year, we can only say to him, "You should have done better!"

Yes, in fact I would. Constantly coaching his players in situational football, so they can be ready to take advantage of opportunities - like Troy Brown did when he stripped the ball - is what a coach does.

If Troy Brown hadn't learned that before being coached by BB he had no business in the NFL.

With the TBF the NEP w/TFB were able to hang close enough
to expose the immaturity of the SDC.:D

Goddammit. I quoted the wrong poster.:bricks:

Sort of like if high school lesson that a 4th down pass is best batted down that McRee didn't yet learn?

The Patriots have consistently played bettin the playoffs than they have earlier in the year. You can call it coaching, you can say it is players becoming a cohesive unit, whatever.

Just look at the past couple non-SB seasons. In 2005 NE was being taken to the wire by teams like Atlanta and Buffalo mid year and was annihilated by Denver. In the playoffs NE beat a decent SD team handily and played a better game against Denver than they did ealier, only to be undone by some TOs.

Last year same deal, NE would never have beaten SD mid year (hell, they lost to the Jets) and they were handled fairly easily by Indy with close to full personnel. Sure they struggled against SD in the playoffs, but they did win and despite injuries that rival what Indy has gone through at their worst this season, it took Indy 59 minutes to even take a lead.

I for one am very curious to see just how this team could play any better than they did early in the year.

You're in the military, right? Don't you keep training throughout your career? Believe me, Belichick has everything to do with the players being aware in pressure situations, they're always the first to credit him for that. This conversation is bordering on the inane, as they usually do when one guy shows up someplace they know they shouldn't be and thinks he's smarter than everyone there. You might not be a stupid guy, but something about this place sure forces the stupid to come out, ey?

This is especially true when there is a bye week and extra time. IIRC, the Pats are 5-0 after a bye week under Belichick.

2001, as second seed they got the extra week before Snow Bowl. There wasn't a two week break between AFCCG and the Super Bowl because of 9/11 . (1-0)

2003, bye before the first playoff game and the off week before SB38 (3-0)

2003 again, bye week before first playoff game and before SB39 (5-0).

Bilichick is frightengly overrated
He's a coach, he doesn't actually make any plays. But in the ways a coach can help, he does a great job. Face it, you and the fans of any of the 31 other teams would trade him for your head coach in a split-second.

Not a chance in hell.
