I'm not a college football follower so I have to ask if you could compare James Laurinaitis to any recent LB drafted who would you compare him most to? I appreciates your opinions.

Ive read that the LB hes most compareable to is A.J Hawk they have Laurinitis rated slightly below Hawk. I forgot what site's ive read it on though.

forget about him. bill likes his linebackers grizzled and surrounded by youth

This could be the a big suprise....OL & Rb was was not to be pick either...How can BB & SP suprise us????This is the year!!!!yeah right...

they are pretty much gonna pick whoever you dont expect and/or want them to pick, and then everything will work out fine.

Can I please get some serious responses?

IMO Laurinitis reminds me of Brian Urlacher.

And that isn't necessarily a compliment, at least wrt the Pats' system. Laurinitis is very good sideline-to-sideline but he may need a couple big DTs (and a 4-3 system) to keep O-linemen off him. From what I've read and seen he has trouble at times getting off blocks.

I heard a rumor that he's as dumb as a rock. If that's the case BB won't touch him.

well his pops

was wrestler so......

Oh yeah, that's right. I knew the name sounded familiar.

Don't know much about him though. Andy Gresh on The Score thinks thats who we take. As of right now we have the 8th pick in the draft.

Shouldn't this thread be in the draft forum?

He reminds me of Barrett Ruud, in that he's surprisingly good in coverage and surprisingly weak against bigger blockers. They're about the same height and weight, too. Definitely not a great comparison, though.

Laurinaitis is similar to Hawk - talent-wise, he probably falls somewhere between Hawk and Bobby Carpenter, closer to Hawk.

I would love to see the Pats grab him, but I don't see it happening, the Pats never do what we think they would do. As perfect a pick this seems to be, that's the same reason why i don't see the Pats doing it. They seem to try to shock the media and fans with their draft choices, lol.

Can you say Andy Katzenmoyer?

I like Laurinaitis but I can see where BB prefers to get his linebackers with NFL experience. If you're looking to get a new linebacker for next season you might want to check the FA list.

I like the other 2 OSU prospects, that figure to go in the top 10-15, better.

To say that BB will NOT do something is foolish imho
Just bc he hasn't drafted a LB early doesn't mean he never will
Remember that BB coached one LT
and has spoken highly of Ware/Merriman before
I think if given the chance we would have drafted either of those guys
so if the right LB comes along I think we will grab him
that being said, the question with Laurenitis is whether or not he can smack NFL guards in the face as a rookie, and chances are that not many rookies can.

I'm sure within a year or two he could do it, and from day 1 he could contribute as a coverage LB... but to draft a guy that high to be a passing down player is a bit unrealistic, or maybe not, BB could do it

And where in my post does it say "NOT"??

I agree that if a "Merriman" or "LT" comes along that it's a no-brainer but until such a LB comes along you'll see BB going the FA route. Gholston could be that guy.

Dude Karlos Dansby of the Arizona Cardinals is the best FA linebacker in 08, it's beyond weak. We have to address LB via the draft. Laurinitias has to be the pick.............

I just don't see BB picking a LB with the 6-8th pick. There's nothing there. If he trades down 5-10 spots then maybe. Why force the issue. There's going to be cuts and you don't know what's going to be out there in FA. There's need for an ILB but it's not life or death. There's always Oscar Lua!! :)
