What do you guys think of James Sanders?

he's become one of my favorites. always where he needs to be. he's very solid. you hardly hear his name called for blowing coverage.

I'm not into this whole "rating" business, but I've liked Sanders since the second game against Buffalo in '05 where he had made some plays. He's had some problems in his game but has really stepped it up this season. He's a good tackler and you don't see many balls completed his way. He's not a "game changer" per se, but he's been very good, doesn't make many mistakes, and has contributed with big plays here and there coming down the stretch. I think the safety corps on this team right now is a huge strength with a healthy, vintage Rodney, Sanders, situational Wilson (who has been getting some good snaps the last couple of weeks), and Meriweather getting in on nickel and dime packages.

A couple notes on this:

Wasn't it reported that Sanders was making all the secondary calls when Rodney was out suspended to start the season? Considering the Pats struggled to find someone capable of doing that in '05 (and the defense blew as a result) that is a huge plus.

I also remember hearing that Sanders was buddy-buddy with Brady during training camp and that they would walk on and off the field together. Brady's leadership, hard work, and all that good stuff seems to have rubbed off on Sanders. Lawyer Milloy (number 36 while here) was pretty close with Brady while with the Patriots; look at the crazy symmetry.

It's been a pleasure watching Sanders grow from from a talented, but unsure kid, into a confident Man, A lot of credit goes to Rodney. Coach has always liked Sanders' work ethic and attitude. And remember, he just turned 24, with a lot of upside. I agree. Let's lock him in.

That being said I like sanders as well but if come draft day where looking at Luaranitis, Gholston, Jenkins and Philips.
Would you be tempted to take Philips for his Laron Landry, Shawn taylor like qualities.

Looked very Rodney-esque in that big hit yesterday. Not much of a talker, just gets his job done. Like many have said hopefully, once Brandon is ready on the other side, we'll have a good tandem for many years.

Hes solid/good but nothing fancy. Thats not a bad thing however. He plays within the scheme..hes not a true playmaker or a huge hitter but hes sound in what he does and hes never out of position.

Just because i said solid/good doesnt mean hes not very good. He is for us but when you compare him to safeties around league..hes not flashy. He doesnt make crazy plays, doesnt have amazing size or speed. Hes in the right place, doesnt give up big plays and thats great. Hes a reliable tackler..he wraps up..blitzes well. I think hes better for strong safety(rodney spot) because i dont think he can line up on a WR or play man with very good TEs or WRs but hes great in run support and sound in coverage.

Hes got the least upside of the Meriweather/Wilson bunch but hes the type of guy who wont come up big in #s but when you watch film, he is where hes supposed to be

Yes, he's the Bruschi (2003 version) of the secondary. In a couple years if he keeps it up we could be talking about him as a Pro Bowler.
