Do You Trust Troy Brown This Week?

I have a feeling they stuck Brown in there because they believe he'd perform better after the catch, but Welker is so damn sure handed even if he doesn't advance the ball as much.

I'd go with Welker from here on out , am I over-reacting or do you agree somewhat?

Brown was out there for a few reasons:

He deserves it, for past accomplishments
He's a fan favorite
An injury to him is irrelevant
A return TD by him would break a record
The Pats didn't need their best out there this week

This was the perfect week to play him. The muffed punt was unfortunate.

I think they stuck him out to see how he'd perform in game, obviously the muffed punt was probably a deal breaker for bigger games, given how consistent and sure handed Wes has been, but I was still worried that maybe he'd be stuck out there again and possibly screw up..

Was just a concern of mine.

I guess you didn't watch until today 'cause BB has been subbing for his starters in the return game for a couple of weeks now to lighten their load and risk of injury heading into the playoffs.

As for Troy, his screwups over a 15 year career have been infrequent enough I would trust him implicitely going forward.

I'll put it this way. If a single fair catch on a punt meant the difference between a SB win or loss, Troy Brown is the guy I want fair catching it!

I'd have to agree. I'm not buying into the "how many times has he screwed up over his career" theory, the muff could be irrelevant as far as I'm concerned I was just wanting to air my opinions about believing Wes should handle the return duties when the games matter.

I was holding my breath before the ball was even punted to Troy, given how he's been inactive for a while. Anyway thanks everyone for your input.

Your living in the past. Last year, I would agree. Now he is simply too old and, more importantly, he has been inactive. He's irrelevant at this point. We have Wes to receive punts/KO. We don't need Brown. He will always have a place in my heart as a great Patriot, but it's time to say goodbye.

Troy wasn't just out there for sentimental reasons, or to preserve Welker.

He was also PRACTICING under game conditions, in case he's needed later on.

Brown has fumbled one recent postseason punt. At least, it feels recent. I'm not eager to give him a chance for another. His hands aren't what they once were.

At this point in his career, Brown is an outstanding BACKUP to Welker. Maybe the Pats even have some sets to drive defenses crazy by using both of them at once. (Unlikely, but I can dream.) But I can't think of anything that Brown currently does better than Welker -- except at CB ... and QB ... and FG defense ...

if troy loses trust because of 1 muffed punt then every brady interception can also be debated..happens. brown will always do the right thing when it counts.

I blame the coaching.
If you muff the kick, you need to dive for the ball.
BB needs to coach 'em up on muff diving.
