Ventrone promoted
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
December 22, 2007 05:56 PM

The Patriots activated safety Ray Ventrone to the 53-man roster today, promoting him off the practice squad.

This is the second time this season that Ventrone has been activated to the roster. He played in the team's Nov. 4 game at Indianapolis, solely on special teams units, and landed back on the practice squad the week after that game.

The Patriots had an open roster spot after waiving defensive backs Rashad Baker and Eddie Jackson earlier this week, and signing nose tackle Rashad Moore.
ST replacement for Baker.

Is Ventrone really a better special teamer than Baker?

Well BB must think so, right?

Amen. There's no logical reason to cut Baker and/or Jackson and promote Ventrone, especially this late in the season, unless you actually believe that the untested Bubba offers an upgrade over the veteran.

He probably won't make the 53, so in part this is a reward for his hard work all season -- but that doesn't negate your comment. You're right.

Why wouldn't he make the 53 ... he is a good ST player. Make him active and a regular who plays ST can take a breather from that these next 2 games. I hope he gets the real bonus and gets to play some dime tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the need for quality LB depth goes unfilled, at our peril.

Well, who are the 7 guys who sit while he plays?

2 OL
Up to 2 injured TEs

Who else?

evev with the injury to colvin, woods and alexander, and brown have little or no snaps , so what is adding another linebacker going to do for us????

I hope Ventrone is active against the Phins because Mrs B has recovered and will be tailgating and attending the game. Next to Bru, she's got the hots for Ventrone.

Ventrone is hardly untested. He's spent parts of 2 years with the Pats and also some time with the Jets.

Why do you waste time and energy over something that can't be fixed during the season? Seriously. I think you b!tch about the linebacking situation at least once every other week. If you have a solution, why not email it to BB. I'm sure that he's not thought of it. I mean, everyone knows how unprepared he always is and how he has to over-react to injuries by signing players who can't fit into the system.

Touché. :) [But I think you know what I meant. ;) ]
