Given our needs if Asante walks. One or two of those cb's will probably be playing for us next year. I can see a scenario where we trade down a little. From say 4 to 8-10. Draft a cb like Malcolm Jenkins - Ohio St. Then this Trae Williams - S Fla. With the extra 2 we get in return. He's not the first guy I've read who thinks Mike Jenkins is a better athlete than T.Williams. But, Williams is the better football player. I wouldn't be against C.Long or V.Gholston in Round 1 either. Then trade up in Round 2 to get T.Williams.

If Asante walks it will be interesting to see what the Pats do as a stop gap measure. This sounds like a good draft to get their CB of the future, but I don't think they'll pencil in a rookie to start at CB. I think they'll bring in a veteran FA to compete w/ Gay.

Something I've been pondering -- is there any position where the Pats have had more consistent draft success and LESS consistent vet pickup success than cornerback? Right now they're fielding an entire CB corps drafted by BB/SP, while Tyrone Poole is the closest thing to a vet jewel that I can recall amidst trades for the like of Duane Starks and Dante Wesley.

To be fair Dante Wesley i'm sure was just special team help.
Tyrone Poole was the man while we had him when he was in his prime as well as my main man Otis the ageless one Smith.
Hopefully we resign Assante if not I know there will be options so i'm personally not worried.

Agreed that Wesley shouldn't be considered.

Remember Gay is a UFA also. It's always shaky to look at history with Belichick as he's unpredictable but they like drafting CB a little later - Samuel was a 4th round pick, Hobbs a 3rd. And Gay was a UDFA. If there were a CB they loved I don't think Belichick would have a problem taking him early but history seems to show he's not scared to wait either. The two #3s we have scream CB to me depending where the value ends up being at various positions in the draft.

How good is this Jenkins kid? Anyone seen him play?
