All we need is another Brady vs. Manning thread, but Joe Montana was on the Gary Radnich show, KNBR, SF this a.m. and Radnich asked him who he'd take for the rest of this season and the playoffs. Joe said Brady. The way he put it was that Tom is having that kind of year where he throws to Moss in double coverage and not only gets a completion, but a touchdown. More than once. There were two in the first Miami game alone, as I recall. Joe said unless the Pats have a hiccup like has almost happened a couple, three times recently, in the playoffs, he's picking them to win it all. Of course, that's saying they'll win it all unless they lose. He didn't say one word about Manning. Just one man's opinion, but it was the other best of all time QB.

Montana was my hero growing up.
Fitting that he would say this about the player who most resembles him.

As far as clutch, and coming up biggest on the biggest stage, I agree, there were none better ever than those two. But, Joe had one skill Tom lacks: he could take off and run with the ball when necessary, not just for a few yards and then slide like Tom, but Joe could actually break a long one. I remember a 50+ yarder in a big game, thinking against the Giants. Of course, how important is that? On Tom's side, I think he has built up his arm to the point where he's better on really long throws than Joe was. Other length passes, short and medium range, for accuracy, timing and zip on the ball, you could throw a blanket, or a towel over them.

This argument is so stupid. If they had asked him after the AFCCG last year, he would've said Manning. For the rest of their careers, the better of the two will always be the one that last beat the other.

how can there be any manning vs brady argument? its like arguing wether or not belichick is better than petrino.
one is great, one is a bum. simple as that

Manning is terrific, but TB is the better QB. Just look at their playoff numbers. Manning had what, 3 TD's versus 7 Int's in Indy's Superbowl run. With Brady ending the regular season stats issue this year, he's ended the debate. That's not to say Manning isn't anything short of incredible, it just means Brady's incredible plus some.

I was wondering if you are extremely bitter or are you really that stupid. Maybe your 14 years old and don't know any better. It's got to be something.

They're both great. I find these discussions tiresome.

(Though I do like it when people say Brady is the best, for some weird reason!)

i may be biased, but i clearly want brady over manning NO MATTER what team i have. brady can perform in any system. with manning he hasn't shown me he can do anything other than the slow-it-down audible when everything's super quiet indoors at home thing.

Brady and Manning are playing leapfrog. First Manning pulls ahead, then Brady passes him, and so on. Manning's a bit older, which is still a good thing the way those guys are still improving. I think if you match them age-to-age Brady has pretty consistently been the better overall QB.

They're also getting easier to compare as they each fix their weaknesses and wind up with more comparable skillsets. When Brady couldn't throw an accurate deep ball and Manning couldn't handle a tough rush, it was REALLY hard to make a clear case for one over the other.

I loved Montana as a quarterback, and I'm glad he selected Brady over Manning, as I would have, but I have to say, his pancakes are the BEST!

Brady can throw it farther. But, in my opinion, Montana was more accurate on the long throws. Seems that the Pats receivers have had to make diving catches (recalling Branch's SB catches) or spectacular grabs (Moss). Montana hit Rice in stride, more often than not, resulting in walk in TDs. This is the only part of Brady's throwing that is not stellar. However, this could improve over the next few years with more emphasis on the Pats vertical passing.

Also, I think Manning has been more accurate to Wayne and Harrison on long throws. But, like Joe, I'll take Brady over Manning.

Amazing how fans blast their ignorance through cyberspace saying Manning is not a challenger to the throne of Best QB. I happen to have been very comfortable with the opinion that Brady has been the best over the past several seasons, but the quality of the competition from Manning (no, not Eli) for that top spot only elevates Brady's distinction.
