PFT Speculation: Pioli, McDaniels to Falcons?

Not open for further replies.
The challenge for pioli in New England is next to zero. Personally, I hope that the Krafts can keep pioli and bill for the rest of the decade, through the 2009 season. Please believe me when I say that pioli can turn over these responsibility to others with little change over the next two seasons.

If the media is correct, this challenge is unique. I would note that this is kind of challenge that Parcells has loved in the past.

BTW, most here seem to think that Mangini would rather be a defensive back coach for the patriots that be in his present situation. Coaching is a tough profession. It is to Romeo's example that Mangini will turn. They both made the right decision for them.

All I want for Xmas is to have one offseason where we dont have to worry about losing Pioli and or, asst coaches. To all the others teams in the league-Leave our F***ing coaches alone.

This is what Chris Mortenson had said in today's chat regarding this issue and other Patriot related news:

Hey Mort, As a Pats fan having the Tuna joining the Falcons and looking for a GM scares me. How can his short list not include his Son in Law - Scott Pioli??

Chris Mortensen: (11:29 AM ET ) That would surprise me. Working with an son-in-law may not be the healthiest thing for all involved.

Mort, Regarding Pioli. That would be a lateral move to Atlanta since Pioli would not have final say. The Pats likely would not grant permission to the Falcons.

Chris Mortensen: (11:31 AM ET ) You're right. The Pats wouldn't grant permission. But, remember, Pioli doesn't have final say in NE. All power belongs to Belichick.

Who dislikes who the most: Parcells-Billichek or Billichek-Mangini?

Chris Mortensen: (11:33 AM ET ) Parcells and Belichick mended their differences a few years ago. They are friends and stay in touch.

It is to Romeo's example that Mangini will turn. They both made the right decision for them.

Totally wrong. Romeo as an older guy continually passed over as a HC had to take a risky football mamangement job because age and time were factors. Mangini could have and should have stayed in NE one or better yet two more years gaining experience as a DC. Taking a job with that awfull NY org and press pressure cooker was unnecessary and a potential career killer. Had The Rat followed his mentor's advice he'd now be a hot property with many potential HC opportunities after this season and he'd have 3 solid seasons as a DC under his belt.

I totally disagree mgteich, the challenge for pioli in New England is greater. Its harder to stay at the top.

you mean his daugher Dallas? Give me a break - its still his daughter.

Apparently, the writer doesn't know that Parcells and Pioli's wife are not on great terms.

PFT is about as credible as Britney Spear’s parenting.

Pioli and BB are best friends. Parcells is Pioli's father-in-law. Would you rather work with one of your best friends, or you father-in-law. That's a toughie...

Ask George Steinbrenner's son in law what it's like working for your father in law after a divorce?? Oh wait a minute, he got fired..Nevermind

We disagree. If you think that the challenges for the patriots for the next 2-3 years are greater than for Atlanta, so be it.

Even if you're correct, who said thats the deciding factor? A primary reason Pioli's wife and Parcells (her father) don't get along is that she didn't like moving around. This was one reason he didn't go to Seattle or NY for more money (and power and rebuilding).

If Pioli wanted to shadow Parcells he would have gone to Dallas.

That's not true either. The GM job in Dallas is filled via nepotism. Jerry is the defacto GM as president and owner, although his son has the title I believe.

They can have Mcdaniels since he sucks, ahem, is incredibly overrated. Matter of fact, I hope they take him. Pioli isn't going anywhere.

Is everyone forgetting Parcells wouldnt touch vineteri because he was on belichicks team.. apparently they have an unwritten rule not to tap into the others team.. which is probably 9/10ths of the reason BB hates the mangidiot, he tried to take everything, even stold a laptop.

So if your Pioli, you want to go from the architeict of a 3 soon to be 4 time SB champion, to a guy who owes his job soley to nepotism???

The only thing harder than getting to the top is staying at the top.

Pioli is not Parcells, not even close. If he were, he and BB would not have lasted this long in a successful situation because one or the other would have had to go. Parcells ego was his undoing for years. Believe me, every time it comes up you can bet Dallas has a lot to say having experienced both stability and instability in her life as a member of an NFL familly. After the first win in 2001, her first comment to Scott was "I guess were're safe for another year...".

I think Mangini would rather be a ball boy in Cleveland right now. He was penny wise, got that HC money a year or two early, but pound foolish because he will likely be out of work next year unless the JETS make the playoffs (and he could be gone mid season if they get off to a slow start). Romeo was an entirely different situation, as was Charlie, for guys who had toiled for almost 30 years and been passed over repeatedly even though they helped engineer multiple Superbowl Championships for two teams in the shadow of others.

No, but the point was there was no GM job to be had in Dallas...not that he would have been interested if there was. He won't be interested this time either.

All I want for Xmas is to always have out coaches and players sought after by other teams.

I understand your sentiment, but if nobody wanted out coaches and players, that would mean they suck. I'd rather have greatness and all the negatives that come with it.

And if Mangini had stayed, he'd now be in line for... exactly what he has already had for the past two years, a lucrative HC contract at 5-10x the salaray he was making before.

Sorry, when the salary raise promised is multiples of your current salary, you always take it. Always. Too many things can go wrong and that payday may never come.

And I don't buy the NYJ job as being a career killer. If we've learned anything from the careers of Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, and others, it's that head coaches who fail who are excellent coordinators can usually go back to being a coordinator and get another shot at HC. Multiple times.

If Pioli turned down the Giants last year I doubt he would even consider the Falcons unless he was given total control of the entire operation and the changed the name of the stadium to PioliDome.

I also highly doubt that Atlanta will turn the team over to a guy who looks like a high school freshman. They need someone who will have instant respect, a former coach or even Singletary.

Maginni did the right thing, his family is set for life and he has gained some incredible experience. He may be gone after 2008 but could easily go take a college job or become a coordinator for a team until his next chance comes up (they seem to retread the same coaches every 3-5 years, see Norv Turner). Next year is his make or break season, all the RAT talk is purely Patriot fan fodder, his results or lack of results will seal his fate.

How is turning over the team to Parcells and pioli like handing it over to a college freshman? If you are talking about Josh; no one would "turn the team" over to josh. Under Parcells and pioli, a young coach can indeed succeed.

And no, I do NOT think that this situation would be in any way a feud among the guys involved. If pioli wants to go, the front office will discuss it, and likely let him go. Scotty has to decide what he wants to do. He certainly can be part of the Kraft organization for many years, if he so chooses.

Personally, I'd like to see the Giants loose already so that Parcells and scotty can finalize their choices. I think that they would rather run the giants than atlanta, but we'll see.
