How many expletives did he shout when Hanson F'ed up that "punt"?

It's from a practice - possibly even pre-season. Fascinating stuff.

As for Hanson, BB pointed out on EEI the other day that the Hanson thing was on a "protection breakdown." He said there's no excuse for a DL like Bowens to be that close to the punter, even WITH the slippery ball.

"If we got a punt blocked every time a punter bobbled the ball a little bit, I don't know what we'd do" or something like that. So while I was pissed at Hanson, too, when I heard that, I felt a little differently.

BB was covering for Hanson. Hanson had over 3 seconds to get that punt off. Thats not a protection issue. If a punt takes over 2 seconds to get off, it will be in danger of being blocked.

If there wasn't a protection breakdown, howcome only one guy was back there? If your claim of "Thats not a protection issue" were true, everyone that was rushing would have been back there.

I mean, I know that he should have had the punt off, but I also think the protection could have been good enough to let him get that punt off.

the protection suckd, but hanson suckd too. he dropped the ball several times in warm-ups.
as for the topic of this thread, did anyone catch what bill and dean were talking about? it had something to do with nick saban i think

Not true.

I had a tough time telling for sure (my "one thousand and one, one thousand and two" isn't well calibrated) so I went back and measured the time by counting frames of video for the 1st half punts.

I counted from the snap until when the punter's foot contacted the ball. In every case the snap took 25-27 frames (.83 to .9 seconds) to get to the punter's hands.

1st Pats punt: 63 frames (2.1 secs).
2nd Pats punt (blocked): 81 frames (2.7 secs)
3rd Pats punt: 61 frames (2.03 secs)

1st Jets punt: 67 frames (2.23 secs)
2nd Jets punt (blocked): 69 frames (2.3 secs)

So Hanson's blocked kick took less than 2/3 of a second longer than normal, which clearly contributed to the block but isn't so much longer that it's the only reason.

The most remarkable thing is that the kick the Pats blocked took essentially no longer than the earlier non-blocked punt, that was a pure breakdown in protection there.

Saban had said the temps in Alabama (during that week) were the hottest of his coaching career. BB asked Dean if he was serious, and Dean went on to say it was the first time in Saban's career that he and the other coaches had to stop for water. BB then said something like "Worse than LSU or Miami?" and Dean again told him that's what Saban had said.
