The whole thing is stupid anyway. Coaches of teams supposed to do well are almost disqualified. 16-0, if we do it, with no use from the camera is the Coach of the Year whether he's voted as such or not.

Re: BB coach of the yr candidacy debates

I think if your team goes undefeated you deserve all the awards possible. lol

Re: BB coach of the yr candidacy debates

Coach of the year comes down to these guys.

Belichick
Crennel
Jauron (would have been if not missing out on the playoffs)
McCarthy (i dont really think he should win the award honestly)
Jack Del Rio

Re: BB coach of the yr candidacy debates

It's a regular season award - we might do something that's never been done before, never, in the regular season. It comes down to two guys :

Belichick.
Not Belichick.

The only reason to vote for someone else is hatred and jealousy of the only legit candidate.

To me, going 16-0 would make ANY coach an automatic for NFL Coach of the Year under any circumstances. If BB goes undefeated and is not named COY, the selection process will be exposed as pure politics. Who votes, anyway? Is it sportswriters?

There is definitely a lot made about the Packers "lack of talent," but it's pretty overblown. Favre, Driver, Jennings, Lee, Barnett, Harris, Woodson, Kampman, Gbaja-Biamila et. al. form a pretty talented core of players. I give McCarthy credit for bringing it all together, but this isn't the '07 Dolphins we're talking about.

AP writers.

Have you paid any attention to the jobs Jauron has done in Buffalo, or McCarthy in Green Bay. They are ABSOLUTELY legitimate candidates. Pats have hellacious talent, and while I think BB is a perfectly good candidate for Coach of the Year, I don't think it's a slam dunk even if there was no Spygate. He'd be the favorite, but not a slam dunk.

Frankly, I'm SHOCKED Buffalo didn't go 2-14 this year after the way their season started. They lost a ton of starters to IR before even the 3rd or 4th week. It was unbelievable...

What Jauron and McCarthy have done is very good, but it's been done before. If Belichick coaches a team to an accomplishment that has never been done before there is no question he is most deserving of the award.

Yes I have. Buffalo has done fine but they have zero wins against teams that are currently over .500. Zero. GB has a few good wins but they're a fairly talented team themselves.

They are ABSOLUTELY legitimate candidates.
If they Patriots go 15-1 you are correct. Until we lose a game no-one else should be in the conversation.

Re: BB coach of the yr candidacy debates

I just read on ESPN.com that BB should be COY, and this little nugget:

"the more we hear about this spygate thing, the more it looks like going 70 in a 45 MPH zone"

The Pats should have defended themsleves much better during week 1, if they had brought out that Jets thing from the playoffs, their is NO WAY that they would have lost a 1st round pick.

BB is the COY, hands down, if the first guy to ever coach his team to a 16-0 records doesn't win COY, then the award shouldn't exist!!!

Indeed, my hope was that in a year or two this would be obvious to most everyone. It takes a while, but sometimes people will get it right when they're out of the moment. It doesn't surprise me at all that some momentum is building for realizing how overblown the videotaping was.

Bingo! We have Bingo! I would love it if BB got this award as it would be one more FU to the Beast Goodell and the rest of the haters,

Re: BB coach of the yr candidacy debates

If we go undefeated, Belichick HAS to be the COY. I'd say that is a pretty damned good coaching job, given no team has done since 72.

Dan Reeves:

"Frankly, I think the whole 'Spygate' thing is overrated," Reeves said. "There's so much information out there as a coach right now that you can't even get through it all. There were plenty of times as a head coach that I knew exactly what was coming from the other team and I told the defensive coach. But that doesn't mean we always stopped it. You still have to have the players perform."

When is CoY announced? A snub of 16-0 BB as CoY at start of playoffs would be just the sort of "disrespect" that the Pats feed on. Couldn't happen at a better time, IMO.

I guess Jauron and McCarthy are well thought of but Jauron has always seemed like a klutz to me, being way too conservative and McCarthy is just the benefactor of a load of talent coming together at the same time. The best coaches do not change from year to year in any meaningful way. Belichick is the best coach in the league whether we go 16-0 or 9-7 and watching bad coaches win it because they outperformed expectations is outrageously stupid. It's the same in every sport, too.

jauron deserves to win as much as BB.. but i think Bill's going home w/ the award despite the controversies...
