SAUERBRUN OUT IN DENVER

Well Broncos punter Todd Sauerbrun apparently failed his lie detector test.

Busted last week for allegedly assaulting a cab driver, the PFT All-Time, All-Turd punter has been cut by the Broncos.

Sauerbrun was also cut by the Broncos last year after serving a four-game suspension for violation of the policy against anabolic steroids and related substances. He eventually signed with the Patriots, and then won his freedom from a right of first refusal in his contract, based on a technicality. He promptly re-signed with Denver.

We mention the concept of the lie detector test with tongue only partially in cheek, because Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has admitted to using the device to "clear" a player who has been charged with wrongdoing. The fact that expressly or implicitly requiring a player to submit to the test and/or hinging his employment on the outcome of it likely is a violation of federal law hasn't stopped him.

UPDATE: We're told that Sauerbrun was not asked to take a lie detector test.

I'm no Hanson fan, but Sauerbrun is an a-hole who is constantly in trouble. From listening to BB's remarks on EEI, Hanson's fine and it was a blocking breakdown that led to the punt-block fiasco. He said a bobble like that should not lead to a blocked punt.

Now here is a question. Lets say Hanson was cut (which i don't think they should) and Sauerbrun was signed AND hanson went to the probowl. What helmet would he wear there?

Hanson's: 37 punts, puny average 40, longest 58, inside 20 11

Hmm...just contemplating the odds of BB signing a guy who filed a grievance with the league to avoid playing for the Patriots this year, then got the boot from his new team due to an assault charge....

I think it would be funny as hell to cut the pro bowl punter, though.

in pregame warm-ups, hanson dropped the snap 3 times. it wasnt surprising to see him bobble one

You conveniently left out the only important punting statistic - net average:

Sauerbrun: 36.1
Hanson: 34.7

Though he plays at high altitude, Sauerbrun's net average is less than a yard and a half better than Hanson's. I don't think that makes up for the fact that Sauerbrun is a jerk and could be suspended for steroids at any time.

I don't think we cut Hanson being that he's also the holder right now. He made one mistake because he didn't get the memo about wearing gloves. One more mistake and I can see it, but if he wore gloves we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I don't want Sauerbrun on the team either, but if you think Pro Bowl voting is relevant in any way to how talented a punter is, you should log off and never return.

Thats not impressive. He's kicking in mile high at home. Hanson has a better percentage of inside the 20 which is more important as the Patriot offense is usually not back in their own end zone. The other factor is the guy said FU' to the Patriots earlier in the year.
