Well....picking 5th.....The New England Patriots select DE Chris Long DE out of Virginia.
Picking 3rd.....the New York Jets select running back Darius McFadden out of Arkansas.

Any thoughts out there in Pats Fan land ????

P.S., you know.....if BB doesn't trade the top pick for "extras", he'll take DE Long @ either 4 or 5 if he's on the board.

BB will not take LB Larxyngitis with the 4th-5th pick.

hahahaha Larxyngitis

But seriously I like Laurinitis.

What's even funnier? You also spelled his name wrong...:bricks:

It's James Laurinaitis.

Also, for the OP, it's Darren McFadden.

Oh, and I don't think NE uses the pick, as I expect them to trade down, and they'll find a trading partner.

Yup......Jesters drafted another RB that high......ummmmback in 1990 a guy names Blair Thomas. That turned out to be pure stroke of genius.

Go ahead. draft Mc"Fad"den

I'd actually prefer LAURINAITIS' teammate Vernon Gholston more than either Laurinaitis or Long

Any thoughts on Jack Long?

Any thoughts on Jack Long?

He's a big OT, with some mobility, but does he have enough mobility for NE's new zone-blocking scheme?

I'd say "maybe". Really, I need to see some of his mobility test this offseason.
I've thought he looked better in a power running offensive attack, but he's also been effective in zone-blocking schemes. I don't think he has the mobility of a D'Brick or other recent prospects, but he's a very good pass blocker, and as I said, he's shown at least some mobility.

Going by the type of guys NE has drafted at OT I could see them pulling the trigger (in a second), but we also have to consider NE could be working their way into a smaller quicker Zone-Blocking O-line over the next few seasons.

The other question is what could be one of the most important things for NE to accomplish going forward? Surely one answer to that question would be to protect Tom Brady. Well, Jake is a very good pass blocker, and would help upgrade NE's protection in multiple ways. Drafting Jake would allow NE to move Matt Light over to RT, strengthening both OT spots at the same time, as NE would then have Kaczur as a backup to Light, instead of counting on him to start.

I'll also say that If NE's going to select anyone in the top 4-5 my money is on his being a linemen.

Any thoughts on Jack Long?

Jake Long - T - Michigan. Would start at RT for 10 years for us. Might be able to trade Kaczur for an ilb if that happens. I think Long is a tremendous prospect. But, with the magic Scarnecchia works with our ol. I hate to use a Top 5 pick on one. Hopefully, we don't have another top 5 pick for a long time. I want an edge pass-rusher, or a shutdown cb.

I like Quentin Groves, and NE could trade down for him.

If the Pats were to take J Long, I would start him at ROT from day #1, but I would still keep Kazcur as the swing tackle and keep Britt as the #4 OT. O'Callaghan I would move to OG. He's a really good road grader, but it's very lonely on the end of the line and he's not the quickest guy.
