Why are so many Patsfan members spoiled rotten?

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

Umm, you're comparing a board who just got there first win with one who have won 14 games. Gee, I wonder which will be happier.

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

I remember Parcells first year. The Pats sucked. But, we won the last 4 games of the year. I felt like we won the Superbowl I was so happy in that off season.

Expectations are scary things. The only thing that will make me happy this year is 19-0. Thats a pretty high bar set as a fan.

We won five games that year. Apparently you didn't cherish every win. ;)

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

There is a simple way to enjoy every win this year. Don't get on this board until Monday or Tuesday after you have reveled in the fact that our team won again, is 14-0 and on their way to only the second undefeated season ever with a team for the ages! :eat3: :singing:

Then come back to the board and continue to shake your head in disbelief because of some of the threads that are created by "objective" fans.

Yeah I am comparing them. You would think a string of 14 win in a row would be reason to be very, very happy. Doesn't happen very often a team win 14 games in the same season.

You would think clinching home field through out would be reason to be happy.

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

I am happy whenever Pats wins. However, i have a high expectation with this team because it is a good football team and it really hurts my feeling when my team did not play well against Raven, Jets, and Eagles.

10 pts in 4 Qs.? Come on.! I expect it from a team such as Dolphin BUT not Pats.

What is the point of having 4 wide receivers when Tom keeps throwing the ball to Randy all the time.?

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

I feel a bit euphoric every time the Patriots win a game, especially when it's a game I've attended. So, nothing takes away from that. It's hard not to look ahead to the Super Bowl and EXPECTING to win it, though.

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

I hang around a dolphin board every once a while.

These guys are ecstatic and bursting with joy over their win yesterday. You would think they just won the superbowl or were 14-0 or had clinched the number one seed in the playoffs.

Nope, they are simply enjoying a win.

Over at the Pats board different story. Mopping because it wasn't a blowout, because Brady didn't get a TD, because SF won a game, because the fish won a game, because our running game is not perfect, because TB threw his 6th int all season.

Enjoy ever win.

I hope to God we never, ever act like the Dolphins did yesterday. I thought it was pathetic to celebrate your first win of the season with only two games left. How can you celebrate that eventhough you are one of the worst teams of all time, you won't have the worst record of all time?

I do think fans are too jaded on this board and around New England. We weren't going to blow out every team especially in this slopfest yesterday. We played smashmouth football, controlled the game, and won. Isn't that enough?

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

Listen, I can appreciate a win with the best of them. I think from my POV, my concerns start kicking in for the playoffs. I start looking ahead and seeing how their current play transfers into the playoffs. With a season like this, I'd yack if we go flawless and then kick it in the playoffs.

What we can learn yesterdays devastating loss

...oh, wait....;)

As with everything, there is good and bad. There are folks who are cognizant of past and present Patriots, and the fact what this team is doing is not only unique for the team, it may be unique for the NFL. Some fans are students of the game, others of Fantasy Football looking only at touchdowns and value to their imaginary teams.

While I do think there are relatively bad teams, taking into account coaching, player abilities, and player preparation, the "any given Sunday" factor always applies due to weather, luck and opposing teams flashing brilliance. Every player in the NFL has the ability to play, and as the days of stocking superstars pre-salary cap is in the past there is no supremely talented team.

So I appreciate the ride and am always thinking, especially in moments like yesterday where Brady is diving rather than sliding, that it can all come to an end in a single hit. That is part of what makes this season remarkable.

Not much confidence in Cassell to get the job done eh? ;)

Me Neither :)

I was going to start a thread with this very title but didn't think it would go over too well. LOL. Just kidding.

Refresh my memory: the game was played in wind and freezing rain, right?

Looking at this board, I was under the impression that the passing game struggled in a dry, windless, 72-degree setting, and we lost by two touchdowns.

Our fanbase is really going in the crapper.

Re: Refresh my memory: the game was played in wind and freezing rain, right?

I gave you five stars by way of agreement. It would be interesting to know if any of the whiners have played any ball game in a winter anywhere north of Florida. I played sports at school in Northern England where winter temperatures were in the 30s Fahrenheit. That was bad enough for me.

Re: Refresh my memory: the game was played in wind and freezing rain, right?

Ha! Good point, and I guess some are taking this "perfection" thing very seriously. Tough, close, weather-impacted games steel this team for what comes next. Without some competitive games, I'd be concerned, but this team has shown its ability to win all types against all types of opponents.

I thought the Jets' game was very entertaining and gave us a chance to see this team do some things that were routine in past years.

Re: Have we forgotten how to enjoy a win?

personally i'm always happy for every W we get; so in order to reply you: personally i have not forgotten to enjoy a win but the best moment ever (that will never happens anymore to me) it is the last drive against STL + fg by Adam

the First Super Bowl win have been the best moment ever in sport for me (as a first)

Did we lose? I keep seeing these threads about how bad we are.

I think most people don't consider Pats win a win unless they score more than 30 points in a game. Yesterday's win was great. Pats proved they can win in bad weather condition and win by running the ball. Not to mention that they can still win even with Brady not having his A game.

I agree there's too much whining about a win. But that doesn't mean there aren't reasons to be uneasy about yesterday's game. We may play in elements again, and the kind of effort we put out yesterday may very well not be enough to beat a better team. It doesn't make a guy a whiner to note that. I think it's worth discussion, so long as it doesn't get to be a silly gripe session like this board has become today. There is definitely a middle ground.

Here's my problem with saying the elements explains Brady's performance. Pennington has been on the bench much of the year, and doesn't have half the talent Brady does. But he was sharper. He didn't force the ball as much, even though his team was losing. In the same weather conditions -- and even going into the wind in the 4th quarter -- he faced the same elements and his passing game was more sharp.

I realize there's an aspect here of each team taking what the other was giving. That's true. Patriots focused on run. On defense, they were content to play run first and allow dink and dunk passes, but Pennington put a lot of those passes on the screws in a way Brady didn't in the same conditions. That explains some of why Pennington looked more sharp, but not all of it. Particularly when you take into account that Pennington played from behind all day, yet Brady was the one who looked like he was trying to jam passes in there. And there were several sets where the Jets were jamming the box and Brady was still missing his targets.

And at the end of the day, the Jets were in pretty good position to be in contention late. We were a miss on a short FG away from being in a one-possession game with 3:00 left and the Jets with all time outs. Actually, it was worse than that -- on the replay call, Pennington delivered the ball and it should have been a TD to make it a 3 point game. It wasn't, of course, and we converted opportuities they didn't. We won that game yesterday on turnovers, not anything else.

I also think the game would not have been as close if we hadn't taken a bunch of stupid false start penalties. Needing 15 yards in a series is a big problem in weather.

All that said, I was left with a mild sense of unease. I'd love to say "Brady managed the game and took a hit to his stats for the sake of the team," which I think is the pollyanna-ish response of some. I think he has not looked good in 2 of the last 3 games, and even though I agree that the weather had a lot to do with yesterday I don't chalk yesterday's performance entirely up to the elements.
