Asked whether he felt that the Patriots hurt their legacy with the "Spygate" controversy, Csonka said: "You don't think it did them any good? I played for Shoes [Shula], and when he didn't like the way the rules were set up or things were going, he went to the NFL and got on the rules committee and changed them to his benefit. That's the way we worked. We played by the rules."

I guess this is a different time than when I grew up.

Trying to avoid current political issues, it used to be when those in power rigged the game by changing the rules to help their side/friends, win/make a fortune, it was considered institutional corruption and much worse than someone making a mistake by breaking one rule.

Today, I guess it's just considered doing business. Get power, change the rules to help your own team.

BTW, don't think for a moment that the sourness eminating from the '72ers isn't primarily borne from economic jealousy. The 2007 Pats (if they go 19-0) would have commercial and financial opportunities unheard of to those envious codgers.

07 Pats -- 14-0 so far; 5-0 against sure or very likely playoff teams with one more to go.
