Don't expect Larry Csonka to be among the well-wishers.

Asked whether he felt that the Patriots hurt their legacy with the "Spygate" controversy, Csonka said: "You don't think it did them any good? I played for Shoes [Shula], and when he didn't like the way the rules were set up or things were going, he went to the NFL and got on the rules committee and changed them to his benefit. That's the way we worked. We played by the rules."

Sounds like an Indianapolis Colt, to me. Pretty stupid. He just said that his team changed the rules to their benefit.

Did everybody read that quote? Meathead just dropped a bombshell. They played within the rules because...

He's admitting the "competition committee" is a bunch of guys that change the rules to help their teams.

WTF?

Kind of scratching my head on that one. Did he really equate (and perhaps say it is worse to take part in) taping of games to having rules formally changed for their benefit?

LMAO, crazy crazy stuff.

The '72 Dolphins and the '07 Ravens must be related.

these guys are bespattering their own legacy

Exactly! As I wrote in the last line of my opening post.

Everyone knows Shula was the Polian of his generation and (probably to Shula's embarrassment) Csonka just declared it.

Leave it to Csonka to get his nose out of joint over the Patriots. ;)

Shula didn't break the rules? Are we talking about the same Don Shula who broke his contract with the Colts in order to go to Miami and cost his Dolphins a draft pick penalty for tampering?

A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK. No better than Belichick.

I guess this is a different time than when I grew up.

Trying to avoid current political issues, it used to be when those in power rigged the game by changing the rules to help their side/friends, win/make a fortune, it was considered institutional corruption and much worse than someone making a mistake by breaking one rule.

Today, I guess it's just considered doing business. Get power, change the rules to help your own team.

This just disgusting.

If ANY of these cretins want to grab some spotlight by edging in to shake BB's or Brady's etc. hand - - I hope they get removed quickly.

Ex-Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian and receiver Howard Twilley said Friday the Patriots are somewhat tainted because they violated NFL rules by taping the Jets’ signals in the season opener.

"The Patriots got punished $500,000 and a first-round draft choice," Yepremian said at the 1972 team’s golf tournament at Doral. "They don’t care. They could do it again. I don’t see other teams doing it."

Former guard Bob Kuechenberg, speaking at a Dolphins Touchdown Club luncheon Tuesday, said, "They are convicted of having cheated. Don Shula said . . . the only thing more important than winning is winning within the rules."

..........Kuechenberg said his preference "would be the Patriots getting their butt kicked. I think they’ll go 16-0, but I don’t think they’ll go 19-0. But as Mercury Morris said, if they go 19-0, they’re going to have to park behind us. Our vehicle is already there."

How would it impact the perception of the Dolphins if the Patriots go unbeaten?

"If it happens, we will be 1A. They will be 1B," Hall of Fame guard Larry Little said.

Yepremian said the Pats "would be a little below us because of Spygate." But, he said, "We’ve been on top of this mountain for a long time. It will be good to have some company."

Thing is, Earl Morrall was a better freakin QB than Griese. LOL!!

Wiki...

When regular Colts signal caller Johnny Unitas was injured in the final exhibition game, Morrall became the team's starter. Morrall proceeded to lead the Colts to a 13-1 record, then added two playoff victories en route to winning the NFL's Most Valuable Player award, leading the Colts into Super Bowl III. However, in one of sport's greatest upsets, the Colts lost 16-7 to the New York Jets, with a second-quarter interception of a pass by Morrall symbolizing the team's luck on the day. Wide receiver Jimmy Orr was wide open near the end zone, but Morrall's throw elsewhere was picked off to blunt the Colts' momentum. Two years later, Morrall again replaced an injured Unitas in Super Bowl V, but the occasion proved to be much happier as the Colts won 16-13 over the Dallas Cowboys on a 32-yard field goal by Jim O'Brien at the end of regulation.

I get more pissed at those 72' idiots as the season goes on. I have not heard one sincere word of praise from them.

I wish someone from the spineless media would bring up the fact TO THEIR FACES that they faced only 2 winning teams (both 8-6) during the '72 regular season.

If the Pats go 19-0, the '72 Dolphins would not be in the same COUNTRY, let alone neighborhood.

To be fair, that sounds a little like some other coach we're familiar with, and not just this year.

Pats gave up a pick to hire Belichick away from the Jets, since he was still under contract there.

BTW, don't think for a moment that the sourness eminating from the '72ers isn't primarily borne from economic jealousy. The 2007 Pats (if they go 19-0) would have commercial and financial opportunities unheard of to those envious codgers.

72 Fins -- 14-0 in regular season; 0-0 against the 7 other playoff teams.

07 Pats -- 14-0 so far; 5-0 against sure or very likely playoff teams with one more to go.

Obviously the Pats benefitted greatly from that 8 minutes of confiscated videotape.

Only AFTER a "bury the hatchet" phone converstaion between Parcells and Kraft giving express permission for the hire.

Completely different from the Shula situation.
