First off--I approve. :)

But here's a question my brother and I were wondering about the last time we talked Pats football: why didn't Moss play deep safety on the final play in the Ravens game? Was it a concern about the possibility of Moss getting injured or getting flagged for PI? Or was it something else altogether?

I could be mistaken, but I thought he did.

I dont have it TiVoed or anything so I couldn't tell you, but I thought I remember him being in that mix.

My wife and I both though Moss should have played close to the line and a guy who can actually tackle play all the way back. Against the wind there was no was Penny was going to get the ball 60 or so yards downfield.

He was there today; I'm asking about the Ravens game. (If Moss were out there--and I'm fairly sure he wasn't--do you think the MNF crew would have ignored that fact?)

I think it's a horrible idea to have him out there at deep safety.

First off, as someone rightly pointed out, he can't tackle. He is useless if the other team throws underneath and gets a man in the open field with ball.

Second, can you imagine if he were to get injured out there on the last play of a game playing defense of all things?

It's just needlessly risky and I can't imagine it really increasesthe effectiveness of the defense that much.

But what do I know -- I'm certainly not BB.

There's probably something to it. The Vikings used to do it as well.

I like it for a hail mary into the end zone but Pennington had no chance on that today.

I looked at it several times, Moss isn't on the field for the Ravens game.

The video had Meriweather (31) in on the play and then had Randy walking off the field (probably going to the locker room). I probably saw the 31 as 81 when I originally saw it. Sorry about that.

Anyway, I don't think it's a bad idea, but not one I resort to regularly (like Troy Brown)

I'm fairly certain (based on the game situation and post game quotes) that the coaching staff was unsure of if the Ravens were going to attempt to get better position for a field goal or go for the touchdown. They had a defense that could react to both options. I believe Moss is only in when the team will be going for a hail mary.

Sounds good, but today was stupid to have him out there, if the jets score a TD who cares the game would have been over anyways.

I could just imagine him jumping up and landing just like Robert Edwards did in the Pro Bowl on the Beach:eek:

I imagine some of the other 10 players were also ones we'd hate to lose to injury.

They don't put him in on those plays to tackle - - - they put him in to outjump the other guys and slap the ball to the ground! ;)

And also, I think Moss likes being out there for it, FWIW. All things being equal, let him have some fun IF he can help in a particular situation.

Yea it is that simple.. BB likes versatile players..

That is exactly correct. I was expecting a short,get-into-field-goal-range sideline pass. The Patriots had to cover both. The hail mary suprised me. Also the fact that the ravens committed a (non-called) penalty on the play suprised me too (shows you their stupidity. Your one chance of winning; and you blow it before the ball even lands).
