Raining Snowballs

Honestly throwing snow up in the air is a lot of fun and it is harmless. It is now a New England Tradition. But I could not believe the amount of snowballs thrown on the field and in the stands. I would say there were literally hundred of snowballs thrown today that hit the field. I swear as Mangini walked off the field somone threaded the needle and snuck a snowball through the wall of security people surrounding the colossal DB and it hit him on the head. Yeah it is kind of funny that Mangini got hit but I felt bad for the cops and security guards who got pelted with hundreds of snowballs all day. I mean it was completely redicoulous and surprising that this could happen in Gillette. I guess the wine and cheese crowd doesn't fully own the Razor yet. Anyways any thoughts?

A guy called the post-game show on WBCN bragging that he was sitting 6 rows behind the Jets bench and that he hit Mangini.

Security came up and warned the kid next to us 3 times to stop throwing snowballs. We're 2 rows from the top and he's trying to hit the field. Then he started randomly throwing them at people in our section. He nailed a girl coming up the stairs with food in the side of the head, nearly knocked her down the stairs.

The refs would penalize the pats because the fans threw snowballs? It is 100 percent impossible to stop a massive crowd from hurling snow balls when it is all over the stadium.

i disagree. you will always see a few snowballs when it snows, but it seemed like things were a bit out of control today. They had to halt the game until it stopped - i've never seen that before.

agreed. I wonder if it had anything with the fact that a lot of people probably gave their tickets away for the game and there were more yahoos there than normal.

ten (?) or so years ago the giants took away a whole bunch of season tickets when some fans did that - curious if anything will come of it.

Yeah i dont know what TV showed but there were a lot of snowballs that hit the field. Most of them made it to where the security, cops, and camera guys were and those were the people who got the brunt of it but many made the field and definitely the back judge got hit. They stopped the game for good reason. They warned the crowd 2 times before they stopped the game. There were a lot of snowballs.

Bpeter said it right obviously any crowd will have a few jerks but it was over the top and almost out of control. The best part was when the announcer for the second time told people to stop doing it and as he was saying it people were throwing snowballs on the field.

Why don't you get off your high horse and just be thankful that pass interference apparently doesn't apply to the Colts in late game situations. I am sure there are idiots in the Colts fan base just like there are idiots in the Pats fan base, and every other fan base. Personally I think it is pretty cool when our fans throw snow balls up in the air, but when they are thrown onto the field that is definently crossing the line, even when Eric Mangini is involved.

There is not a problem throwing snow in the air after touchdowns, big plays, e.tc., but today I thought it got a bit out of control.

Even walking up the ramp up to the 300's people were throwing them down below, drilling unsuspecting people in the heads. Then people in the 300's were throwing (and reaching the field) many of them landing on the Jets sideline. The cops had control of the snow throwers in the 1st half, probably ejecting about 10 people, but in the 2nd half they couldnt control anything.

As for the snowballs that got on the field, they came mostly from the endzone where the vistors come out. They were throwing them even when play wasnt even on that end. I even saw a security person kneeling in front of the wall so he wouldnt get it. That endzone was brutal.

Obviously, the writer has no clue. That's a real class post. If the danger of this act is not understood, then there's not much capability of understanding anything. I'd go on, but it appears that the poster is 12 years old and probably about 4'8" in stature. Someone who knows no better who thinks it's cool to put others in danger.

I apologize to the many 12 year olds mature enough to know right from wrong in this situation.

Not true. "The referee must not assess an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty on the home team for actions of fans that cause or contribute to an emergency."

They could stop the game for player safety, in which game the Pats forfeit.

No one has the authority to do that. Literally, even the commissioner cannot unilaterally declare a forfeit. A forfeit can only happen when "a game is not played because of the failure or refusal of one team to participate."

Moreover, a game can only be terminated if "its resumption (a) would not change its ultimate result or (b) would not adversely affect any other interteam competitive issue." And, more importantly, the refs cannot end a game prematurely without permission from a league representative or the Commissioner, though they may suspend the game temporarily for safety reasons.

The good news is they have very good security camera coverage at Gillette, and the Krafts could be seen in the owners box quite pissed and on the cell phones. I expect the seats that can be located from which the snoballs in the end zone ensued will be available next season for those on the waiting list.

It was lots of fun when we threw the snow up in the air for that miami game a few years ago... and when I saw the crowd throw it up after the first score, I thought it was awsome. I thought man, this is a new tradition. Than the drunk idiots take over and started throwing the snowballs. For the most part it seemed tame. Than they started targeting the Jets coaches and I am saying to myself he they go ruining a good thing and sure enough the annoncements came and the suspension of play. Now they prolly wont even want any snow thrown at all even in celebration
