Mangini struggles as a head coach ...

He was a better than average DC for the Patriots.

He was an excellant DB coach .. under Belichick's guidance that is.

But really, we won the Super Bowl in 2004 with a depleted secondary with a few JAGs on it ... Poteat and Gay to name 2.

So perhaps Brady was a bit off today ... whatever ... he was good enough.
But a defensive minded coach who figured largely in our 2003 & 2004 Super Bowl wins came up with a great game plan today ... unfortunately against a great team.

So let's give credit to the other coach when it is warranted. Mangini, considering all else gave his team a chance to win today ... they couldn't and didn't. The rat in NY may be a jerk but he still knows how to coach a secondary ... if nothing else.

yes he is a genius

I think Mangini would be an ok coach for a bunch of dooshbags (cuz dochebag is prolly blocked)

Mangini wasn't a good DC while here, and as a HC it's clear he's a fraud.

But even as a DB coach, it's not like he was that great. He was coaching DB's with a LOT of natural talent, like Ty Law, Lawyer/Harrison, Poole, Buckley, Otis Smith... mostly veterans who already knew what they were doing.

Good post. He is a smart coach and DB is his specialty.

I don't know why people underestimate our opponents, the Jets usually play us tough.

Hank Poteat was a scrub and he looked like a player today...

I think if Mangenious really applied himself and got into his work he might make a good janitor...provided that he focused on cleaning urinals and toilets.

oh that's what you meant about a DB coach. I thought you meant the other kind of DB.

Earthwind Moreland.

i think you give him way too much credit, the reason the game was even close was more to do with the elements and TBs velocity then Mangenius game plan....how many in the chest and bounce out passes were dropped today. It had nothing to do with his strategy.

Pennington who has no velocity on the ball was more successful because of it.

I'll give Mangini some props, he is a very good defensive mind, and the Jets played pretty much evenly.

I have to argue though that Gay is hardly a JAG, and could probably start for a dozen other teams.

he was a JAG at that time ...

A few detractors in this thread but we had Gay, Moreland, Poteat and we won a Super Bowl ... not solely by the DB's but they had a coach and Belichick was high on him to be a HC someday ... many thought here.

There have been many great offensive and defensive coaches who sucked as head coaches ... that does not mean that they such as a coach in general ... being a HC takes special talents .. mostly personality orientated.
