With Haren off the market seems to me that such a move could jump start the Santana talks again with both the Red Sox and the Yankees... with the Yankees now to be even MORE desperate now that Haren's gone (yes, Bedard is a possibility, but I wouldn't want to bank my season on Baltimore trading within the division)
For the Sox, Santana's a win win with a need for another ace caliber starter after next season - why not get one early and keep the Yankees weak.
For the Yankees, the price probably just went up for them with Haren gone - which is also good news for the Sox if they give up their young pitching
