In light of Clemens' widespread steroid use, starting with his "resurgence" in Toronto. I feel that I have to offer my apologies to Dan Duquette for cursing him for not re-signing Clemens and his "twilight of his career" quote. Obviously he should have re-signed Clemens and his supplier.

Somewhere Dan is sporting his famous **** eatin grin.

This guy was under-rated.
He correctly saw Clemens' decline and got Pedro for 2 prospects who did nothing. He fleeced Seattle with Gordon for Lowe and Veritek. He brought up Nomar, signed Manny, and help build the foundation for the work Theo did later.

That's exactly what went through my mind (I had lots of time to think on a 2 hour car ride home through the snow).

If I had to guess I'd expect that Clemens used his anger at the "twilight of his career" remark to get into shape - with a little help of course. I know I heard reference to where he got steroids in Toronto - didn't hear anything mentioned about when in Boston.

Too bad - he stood to be the first unanimous ballot for the hall of fame - not anymore.

what Pedro did in a sox uniform is looking far more impressive then anything the now tainted Clemens ever did .

I liked Duquette ...so no apology from me ... he was light years better than Lou Gorman ... who was better when he was younger. My only knock on duquette was that I was sure he would rebuild our minors system ... and he only did a fair job with that.

I think many of the legitimate gripes about Duquette have more to do with how he ran the team than with the players he signed. One sore spot for me was the way he treated Jimy Williams with the whole Carl Everett ordeal.

Absolutely and it was Slocumb for Lowe and Varitek...the biggest Boston robbery since Brink's.

His brother Ramon could have chosen the Clemens route ... he retired
peacefully to the D.R.

Duquette is still the guy who pushed Johnny Pesky out the back door; but yeah his player evaluations were a lot better than he was given credit for.

Sorry, but when a non-offical "coach" bad mouths the President of the team the non-offical is wearing the uniform of, I wouldn't expect that person to be given privileges. There were also league rules regarding how many staff could be in the dugout. Duquette used those against Pesky, but I see that as Pesky's fault.

I thought he deserved a ring for the 2004 team. He has some flaws but 75% was because of him, I can't imagine why he has not gotten another job.
