Stallworth was a 13 pick in the 1st round in 2002, Desean Jackson is touted at around 7-10.

Stallworth during the scouting combine ran a 4.25, 40.

How is Jackson's speed do you think he can run a 4.25 seconds?

The ravens, are drafting at the 7th spot, and the top 5 have DE, and DTs so the ravens being a defensive team, they might trade up with the pats to take the 2nd pick and grab Dorsey or gholston?

The Pats are not going to draft a WR in the first round even if the Stallworth leaves (which I expect) I think they will give C. Jackson a shot there before they go after another rookie WR

and u were probably a Ted Ginn basher. yes Jackson is more polished but he has work to do(a lot) and u wanna pick him about same spot as Ginn got picked after we already have the best WR corp

I'd honestly be surprised if BB ever drafts another WR high, given that...

- Statistically, WR is the riskiest position to draft across the league
- For Pats draftees in particular, there has been absolutely no relationship between the draft position of WRs and their production
- The Pats have done better trading picks for veteran WRs than drafting rookies at comparable draft points
- This year they seemed to simply give up on college WRs in disgust!

DeSean doesn't impress me. Sure, he's as fast as hell, and remarkably agile, but really, he reminds me most of Raghib Ismail. And we don't need to draft a Kick Returner that high.

I still believe that McFadden is more of a smokescreen in order to trade down. If you are successful in trading down, I can see you drafting an Inside Linebacker, maybe Conner, or Laurentis. The reason is there is some age at LB. Kenny Phillips is a possibility due to Asante Samuel possibly leaving in free agency, or even to replace Rodney Harrison. I keep hearing Chris Long DE Virginia is also a possibility, but not sure if you really need help at DE.

Why take DeSean Jackson at #7 when we can trade down to #9 and take Ted Ginn?

DeSean isn't predicted anywhere near 7-10 level from everything I've heard. He's a fringe first rounder. He doesn't make a lot/any sense on the Patriots, to the point where we might not pick him with our 2nd rounder.

well if the pats goe undefeated and win the superbowl and stallworth leaves for FA, then it only makes sense to draft a WR to replace stallworth. Why fix something that is not broken, just replace the batteries(stallworth).

Gafney might win out stallworth's position and chad jackson might step up one slot in depth.

It doesn't make sense at all to draft a replacement for Stallworth. Firstly, there's not much room. Moss, Gaffney, Welker, Jackson and 2 guys on the practice squad who looked good. Plus the offense is kind of tricky, hard to tell if a college player will be able to grasp it or not. So it would be a crapshoot.

There are actual positions of need to draft where a rookie could come in and contribute. WR isn't really one of them.

Why did he [sign] Stallworth who was a 1st round pick....his being picked in the first is irrelevent. Welker was undrafted. So if he leaves, I guess they'll have to get another undrafted guy to replace him, right? Does that make any sense at all? None that I can see.

He picked up Stallworth because he thought he was a talented receiver who could learn the offense, I guess. He'd been in the league for a few years so there was a track record. Rookies in college don't have much of a track record as to how they'll learn a system. The college game is much simpler than the pros.

Wow. Well, assuming this is a serious question: once a player has reached UFA status, his initial draft slot is completely immaterial. Welker was undrafted, Moss was a 1st round pick, Gaffney a 2nd round pick and Kelley Washington a 3rd. Immaterial. Completely.

The argument against drafting a WR in the 1st round isn't that the 1st-round status somehow poisons the player, it's that it's exceptionally difficult to project success at the position from college to the pros. Maybe the receiver didn't play in a pro-style offense, maybe he had a scrub QB. And sure as shooting he didn't have to beat the jam off the line. 3 2nd-round picks yielding only 1 starter at the position is just not good.

Even if we dont go after Desean Jackson. If we trade down witht the ravens we still are in position to draft a safety(Kenny Phillips). With Wilson being a healthy scractch often and harrison soon to retire, it would be fitting to grab a safety.

Asante is also leaving, so iam sure the highest touted safety can also play DB, especially with BB's coaching.

the top 5 will mainly be DEs and DT,and mcfadden if we trade down to the 7-9 spot we might be able to grab a 2nd round pick in the next draft also. The teams that wil most likely trade up will be defensive teams or teams that need to address their defense that are slotted to draft in the 10-12 range.

I would definately grab Desean Jackson if he's there in the second round, definately not in the first round. He could take a year or so to learn the offense, and be an incredible asset to us as a kick returner, he could be one of the top return men in the NFL. Before the 2006 draft, Devin Hester was rated a 4th rounder, and people thought the Bears were crazy for picking him in the 2nd round, now I'd definately use an early second rounder or maybe a first round pick for Hester. He's that important to a team, and I predict Jackson will be similar in that respect. I've seen a lot of Desean Jackson, and he can be a special player. But defense first with our top pick please !!

Jackson only weighs 165 or so, Really hard to imagine his body with standing a full season of punishment Excellent return guy and a lot more polished route runnere than Ginn.

scott99 why would he fall down to the 2nd round? If anything he would be a middle 1st round pick. Its not like other teams dont have QBs that can throw, so they will draft WRs.
