Talking heads are saying that the nasty weather....

headed for New England is going to "level the playing field somewhat" (according to Mike Mussinelli (sp) ESPN radio). I have heard a few other media types mention the same thing that the snow will take away alot of the Pats aerial attack and force them to keep it on the ground where they aren't as successful......Would appreciate your comments as to whether you think the weather is going to keep this game closer.

Obviously, if it were cool and sunny the Pats would be blowing the Jests out by about the 23 pt margin.......but I can see what they are getting at that the weather may keep the game somewhat tighter........

We are going to be relying on Maroney carrying the rock a fair amount.......and probably due to the slippery ball.....giving less reps to Faulk......

The Jets are a power-running ball-control passing offense so they get some advantage if the weather makes it difficult to execute the Pats big-play passing attack. But the talent disparity between the 2 teams is so great that it is unlikely that any weather is going to result in a Jet's upset victory.

The Patriots offensive game plan tends to be anything but conventional. All this talk of 'keeping the ball on the ground' could very well play right into the Patriots hands. Brady has fared well in snowy/rainy conditions in the past, I could see them coming out with alot of play actions and set the pace with the pass. At this point, with the weather being what it is, I think they'd be smart to throw out the 'conventional' playbook and throw the ball, at least in the early going, to get the Jets on their heels. That should open up the running game when the Pats have a conmfortable lead in the 2nd quarter

The issue is whether snow "levels the playing field", reduces the total points and the spread. I think the answer to all of these is "yes".

We are still a much better team, under any playing conditions. Lots of wind is the only condition that we really don't want.

from what i'm reading at 1pm sunday it will be rain/10 mph winds. no big deal, the asskicking is still scheduled!

Anything can happen in bad weather. UMass football was 7-1 going into their game against 1-7(?) Rhode Island. It rained and poured and the winds were crazy. They lost 12-6 with all of their six points coming on safeties. Of course, UMass went on to win the CAA championship. So yes, bad weather gives bad teams a chance to beat good teams. Though the Pats are more than a "good team."

They say that but we can run quick plays, screens or slants were Welker will come into his own. We dont need the big plays to win and we wont be rescricted to just running the ball so I doubt it'll level it out that much.

Rain with periodic peak gusts of up to 35mph (with a sustained wind of 10-15mph, which is no big deal, especially to Brady) will likely occur near the start of the game but the gusts should fade during the afternoon. There's a good chance that the second will be fairly dry as the storm whips away north. TB has seen worse, that's for certain. How Clemens handles it is another story maybe titled "Turnover Town."

It actually reached the point, as conditions deteriorated in this game, when both teams gave up on the run entirely. But, of course, TV talking heads never let facts get in the way of a good manufactured hype story.
