He was unblocked. Why would you be impressed by that?

LMAO!

Can you picture this same scenario with Manning getting driven to the turf? I know I know trade down. Just saying............

I agree Danny. Long is going to be an outstanding pass rusher. This area is probably our biggest need on defense. Surely would help our aging Lb corp.
Saying he was unblocked in the video is rediculous. His quickness simply evaded not 1 but 2 would be blockers.

He was unblocked because, by definition, Chris Long is unblockable by an NCAA lineman. He spent more time in the backfield than most running backs last year.

I don't have an opinion because I haven't seen him much.

On that video, he neither went around or through blockers, he went straight ahead and sloughed off two blockers who had bad angles.

Hard to tell much from that video.

I can't see youtube at work, so I can't comment on the video. However I watched him against Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and another game that escapes me, and nobody could handle him, or really even slow him down one-on-one.

Hahah!!!! Yes, Chris Long sucks!!! You are a total fool. You know Chris long is considered unblockable and one of the best if not the best de in the ncaa right?

Oh really? The kid had 14 sacks and is by ncaa consensus unblockable.

Clearly you dont watch him play. The video was meant to show his quickness and speed. Something we need. For the record he blew by two blockers with a clear hold on him. But the angles sucked , right....

That play won the game with a safety. You dont think the opposing blockers where doing there best to stop the best de in the ncaa?

Well he beat two guys, an offensive lineman, and what looks to be a FB or RB to get a sack for the safety. It's a nice individual play, but I'd like to see more before passing judgment. Any decent defensive player will have a few highlight plays that you can point at. The question for me is can this guy play OLB? Because at 280 lbs, he is too small to play defensive end in the Pats 3-4.

I wonder if he couldn't be coached to play ILB. They tried it with Klecko for a while, and Long is a much better athlete and seems to have a much higher football IQ, even if I consider his dad a notch below Klecko's.

He clearly is a solid pass rusher and could easily play a Jarvis Green role for us at DE-- so the idea that he's too small is not entirely accurate. It can work.

Now, at his size, he could be a Willie McGinest or Adalius Thomas for us, if he has the lateral agility and ability against the run. If he has the versatility to play LB, that's where the value as a top-5 pick would come into play. That type of talent doesn't come alone every year. He doesn't have to have great speed, but he has to be a wrap up tackler.

Overall, I agree with dryheat. The question on drafting CLong is whether he has the football IQ, not the athleticism. The most important thing for a Belichick player is whether he can learn and evolve the system, not whether he's got the physical tools. Whatever physical abilities he brings, the staff will find a way to showcase them. But his football IQ is the difference between whether we'll draft him or not.

Long is a MONSTER. THat would be a cool pick up :p

Whether or not Long was blocked, picturing that sacked QB with Manning's face made me smile a little.

I think the thing we learned rather painfully against the Eagles and the Ravens is that if we can not get pressure on the opposing QB with our D line, opposing QB's (even average QB's) will pick our defense apart.

Historically pressure on the opposing QB has been the mantra for BB's defense. Any time BB saw a chance to pick up someone that can rush the passer, Vrabel, Colvin or Thomas, BB has done it.

That being said however the Pats should get a starter with the #2 pick in the draft, but I only see 2 current college players that could come in and beat out an existing starter on the 2007 Patriots. Those two are J Long at ROT and RB McFadden.

Let's wait until retirements and FA defections (signings too, I guess) hit. If one of Seau or Bruschi goes, there's a rotational spot. Ditto Samuel. And if Rodney Goes, I want a safety to pair with Sanders. Wilson will probably be allowed to leave, probably to Mangini, and I'm not sold on Meriweather.

He wasn't unblocked. The first O-linemen used bad tech, which helped Chris move past him quickly (with a move), then the other O-linemen tried to direct him at the last second, but it was already to late.

as has been pointed out... yeah, ummm... what are you talking about?

he was heads-up over a lineman, and used his hands effectively to beat the punch, then sped past the double-team from the 2nd guy ...

learn something about film before you start throwing around analysis and ridicule...

If Asante walks. Malcolm Jenkins could probably start at cb for us. Might be better value trading down and getting a different cb. But, a trade down to 6-7 and get Jenkins isn't out of the realm of possibilities.
