Prepare yourselves folks - the New York Times has come out in support of the New York Jets.

In what I think is an actual serious attempt to defend ManJudas, NYT Columnist William Rhoden stakes out the moral high ground that MangIdiot's proper loyalty is to whoever signs his paychecks.

While this might be a not so subtle message from Rhoden to his editors that they should be prepared to match his offer from the New York Post (if they know what's good for them) he's perfectly illustrated why ManJudas will never work for any other organization in the NFL.

Think Mike Tannenbaum's happy knowing that as soon as someone other than Woody Johnson (*giggle*) is signing Eric's paychecks he should be prepared to read about his numerous Tampering incidences? Exactly which NFL owner is going to want to put themselves in the compromising position of having Mangini anywhere near their team?

Nicely done Mr. Rhoden. That sound you just heard was the other shoe dropping.

I would have turned in New England in a heartbeat.

Don’t tell me about what Mangini did or did not do when he was with New England. Mangini was a Patriots assistant from 2000 to 2005. The Patriots signed his checks, his loyalties accrued to New England.

When Mangini signed with the Jets, his allegiance followed. Where’s the complexity?

What these Mangini defenders don't get is there is a way to be loyal to your employer and not screw over your former mentor in the process. I have no problem with him trying to sign Chatham and some of the staff way from the Pats, but recruiting them before he officially tenders his resignation and accept the Jets offer? That's slimy. It is ok for him to steal Belichick's defensive philosophies, but not a laptop with sensitive information on it. If Mangini knows that Belichick is filming the Jets' signals, he has the right to use his knowledge to stop the Pats. But to rat him out to the league and then throw around baseless accusations that the Pats were jamming their coach to QB communications?

I have no problem with Mangini putting the Jets first. He should. But he doesn't need to try to damage his former team and mentor in the process.

I think the Patriots were paying him when he allegedly downloaded all of the Patriots intellectual property and took it to the Jets. I remember Pennington saying how helpful the Patriot’s document on his tendencies was when he read it. I believe that all Mangini’s personal belongings are still with the Patriots who will only return them when he returns the property he stole.

Eric Mangini is one of the lowest low-lifes
i have ever seen in this league i've been following since
(whatever year it was when) the Giants beat the Browns
in a playoff to determine who would lose to the Bears.

There has been a lot of venom spat his way in these pages.

This is really a ludicous statement, with it one can justify anything as long as they are getting paid for it. Under this pretext as long as one is getting paid they have no personal, societal or professional code of conduct, money is their only criteria for doing anything. Wow - talk of loyalty from the newspaper that purposely published stories on classified programs successfully used to map and track financial transactions by Al Queda cells.

If the Patriots had employees sign a confidentiality agreement and had stamped documents, paper and electronic as 'Company Confidential' with warning text, then they would have an actionable case against someone such as Eric The Rat disclosing them elsewhere. I doubt that they did that back then . They might do it now though.
