Willie McGinest pissed at the Pats?

I wouldn't read into it too much. No direct quote, and the author can't seem to count either.
According to him, only 4 players are left from the 2001 team.:singing:

just another reason to root for browns loss to bills on sunday. be great to hear all the whiney excuses how the lowly bills ko'd them from the playoffs. mcginnist will blame the patriots! LOL

Bad reporting.

For instance, Graham says, "I'm actually happy that I'm out of there."

And no one asks him why?

How hard is it?

Here: "Why?"

Graham: "Because they made me stay in and block 95% of the time."

Not sure I got that out of it, he made it clear he felt under loved and wanted more hugs even at the possible expense of wins :

"For the most part, everybody sees all the winning and the glamorous part. It's a lot different when you're there and see how it's operated up there. Everything is not glamorous. It's a business up there and they let that be understood. It's a business."

Personally I have no time or interest in any former players turning bittermen. None!! DON'T CARE ONE BIT!!
BTW Willie went over to ManJudas and put his arm around him after the Browns/Jets game last week. A touching moment!! ;)

IIRC, I believe we were said to be "in touch with his people" throughout the process so while we may not have formally offered a contract I think he knew he could have a job with us; however it would have been for far less than he got.

What does that mean? They cut him on the eave of the CBA being signed which would have provided even more cap space. The message was clear, thanks for the memories, leave your playbook at the door.

It is business, he didn't slam the team on his way out he just took his rings and left.

Other than youth and a few more catches, what does STONE HANDS Graham offer that Kyle Brady doesn't at this point.

Yeah Dan.....I'm sure it's a business............!

And when your old and Gray......and your grandkids are asking you to tell them about your NFL days.....I'm sure you'll wax ecstatically about the nice career you had in Denver...

Ass.

Too bad too...

For less cash.....you could have been legendary.

They were never going to not cut him at that salary. But if he'd have come back for $1M or so, I have little doubt they'd have taken him. Just like Troy and Seau are playing for.

A total non-issue.

Willie knew he was gone before the season ended in 2005. Anyone who has tape of that game will see him hugging everyone at the end of the game. Crennel took him but I guess Belichick was okay with it.

Now...here is where my info got real juicey...McGinest does not want or needs to be involved in this at all. WHY??? Because he had a contract in principle with the Browns around mid-season of 2005. No mention either way of Uberstein here...possible brought in at the final minute to lend credibility to the contract...and wanted a few more for his risk. This is why Belichick has been so silent on the McGinest stories. Perhaps Bill new last year Willie would be gone this year???

Either way...he got more money there than he would have made here so it seems like no big deal...except for the contract in principal part which though hard to prove...is wrong. But, at least we now know why all those teams that were interested in Mcginest were never given the time of day. McGinest and the Browns waited a bit to make it all look good.

Good read by Felger...and I hope the media picks up that McGinest was shopping himself around sometime last season. I posted this under a Vinatieri thread here somewhere, it was told to me as (locker room talk). Perhaps with the teams blessing??? Sounds like tampering to me though...even though it won't go anywhere...but the media needs to report truthfully, as opposed to making it look like Willie was cast aside like a used ball.

Quote:
Defensive end Ty Warren and guard Stephen Neal also met with the media, with Warren saying that McGinest dropped hints about leaving soon after the playoff loss in Denver and Neal acknowledging that the Pats' offer (four years, $10 million, $3.5 million bonus) was competitive with the others he received on the open market. It's all about the business of free agency, something Bruschi still fights.

Like the Graham article, another waste of print.

Seau 'graduated' and was eating Cheetos on his sofa when BB called, Brown had a better offer from New Orleans and an offer from the Patriots.

McGinest had one offer and it was a damn good one.

I am sure their is a pile of internet evidence a mile high that says this or says that, just like there seems to be for every player who has left the Patriots.

Willie was a huge part of the championships and the team culture, in the end it was business but IMO he is still one of the best of the best.

He wasn't thrilled that we handed Seau his number so soon after he left.

(Although I thought he took that number in college BECAUSE Seau had it previously)

With the Patriots, Danny Boy would have been a household name playing a meaningful game each week towards what could be a HISTORIC SEASON, instead he'd rather be a JAG TE playing on an underachieving team.

He's either 1) Lying his ass off. or 2) he's not the kind of player I want on my team.

Besides, what he gonna say to a reporter.... The the team that stepped up and is paying me millions sucks and I'd rather be playing elsewhere.

Branch......... Not impressed with at all since he left. Willie G. Great once, old and slow at this point....... Vinatrator, becoming an average kicker at this point.

Bledsoe, Law, Milloy, Patton, et all.......... Don't really give a sack of donkey balls what they think at this point.

blaa, blaa, blaa, another useless hit piece.

I know this doesn't matter a whole lot, but I was surprised to read this:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-ex-patriots&prov=ap&type=lgns

I remember him shoving another Patriot, I can't recall who, during the Denver playoff game they lost - his last with the team, but I thought that was just frustration. Did he leave on bad terms?

Isn't he pissed off that the Pats gave 55 to Seau two years ago?

You are a remarkable archivist, Nut !

Striking to see, at the bottom of your second citation, this from someone named
Box O Rocks:

I think it also speaks to Mangini's youth and inexperience as DC. There was a dramatic transition from RAC to EM, older players would be the first to resent the change.

What is interesting now, is looking back at the McGinest-Izzo confrontation on the sideline in Denver. I have a memory of people claiming McGinest was getting on Izzo for a mistake, but I can't help but wonder if it was the other way around and Izzo was the one resenting an apparent premature departure?

The one thing we need to take away from the article is Tedy's assurance that the remainder of the front seven are leaders, and competent ones at that. Tedy demonstrates it by challenging TBC to perform and succeed in the article.

I believe this is 5k the way I wanted to achieve it, talking Patriots' football.

Man, i miss that guy!
(Box, not Willie.)

Box of Rocks ... a HOF of the forum IMO ...

and I ran across another great contributor looking back upon that time:

"RookBoston" ... was a very solid contributor to the forum.

I was pissed when I read this earlier tonight (again, assuming it's true). McGinest had no problems taking in all the applause - including mine - when the Browns visited Gillette this year. He was walking around like he owned the place, the only Brown with his helmet off for a lot of the pregame. Wish we knew more. The other responses were what I would have expected. I would have like to have seen Ty Law's take.

no they both went to USC and know each other, Seau called Willie to ask him if he had a problem with him wearing that number, and willie gave his blessing.

The Browns gave him twice what he was worth. I love willie, but what kind of a deal has it been for Cleveland?
I think WMG's benefit to Cleveland was more in teh locker room than on the field. The value to Romeo of having a player keep the youngsters in line cannot be over-stated.
