"The Patriots had just beaten the Cowboys in October and were celebrating in their popcorn-strewn locker room when head coach Bill Belichick addressed the team. He was happy that the Patriots rallied for a 48-27 win, but disappointed that not everyone was healthy enough to play. The focus of his wrath reportedly was running back Laurence Maroney, whom Belichick derisively referred to only as "No. 39," admonishing him to toughen up and get on the field where his team needed him. Word around the league is that the Pats have scouted Darren McFadden extensively and are fans of his game. There's a difference, however, between scouts liking him and Belichick liking him, and the head coach won't be making those kind of decisions until after the season."

I haven't seen much of him beyond a few highlight videos on YouTube, but he looks like a guy that doesn't dance and hits the hole extremely hard!

BTW, last night I think we got to see what our wide receiving corp will look like next year. Stallworth will be gone (didn't get much action last night) and Gaffney and CJack will take his snaps. While I like Donte, he's not worth the cash he'll command and I'm a fan of Gaffney.

Am I missing something here? Was that actually reported on by other media outlets or does FanNation.com have a mole in Foxboro?

It's from a Boston Herald article that was printed on Friday (Felger maybe?)

PATRIOTS SCOUT EVERYBODY!!!!!

It could never be!!! The only thing that is true is when writers and or pundits kiss pats players butt's.

There is NO WAY Beli is dissapointed with SloMo!

When Tomase says "sources say" and "Word around the league is", especially when it enables him to find something to criticize/**** stir on this team, he probably doesn't have sufficient basis to actually make these claims.

With Samuel/Moss/others needing contracts this season I see NO way they spend $20+ mil on a rookie.

I know this has been talked about ad nauseum on this board but I haven't really thrown my hat into the ring. My thought--and it echo's almost everyone elses here--is that they trade down, get a late first and a few second/third/next year picks and restock that way.

And Tomase's an assclown, he has zero credibility in my book. He could have a direct quote with a video clip from both Belichick and Pioli saying they're going to draft McFadden and I wouldn't believe him.

Yea seriously...they are going to have a top 5 pick...it would be an upset if they DID NOT scout him.

True, but at the time (just after the Cowboys game) you couldn't be so certain that SF was going to have an awful season and the Patriots would be in position to have a top 5 pick.

and why so snippy ... I didn't say anything about whether or not they should make McFadden the pick. I was sharing a link. Nothing more, nothing less.

Really? Are you confident that they're scouting Matt Ryan, Tebow or any of the other top college QBs? (not that Tebow is coming out this year)

But thanks for the NEWS FLASH!

I'd be willing to bet they have scouts at their games.

Don't know how we'd prove it, but I think it's a safe bet.

You said the Patriots "scout EVERYONE". I have NO doubt that the Patriots have players at BC games. But they're not there to scout a top QB like Ryan. They're there to look at other guys that fit an actual need.

Unless of course sources say something good about the pats. Then he is the best thing since sliced bread.

Yea the pats are scouting every single player in college. Its a safe bet

Why would we be scouting the #1 running back in the draft when we have the great LoMo as our STUD of the future? Makes absolutely no sense.

So they watch the game and ignore the quarterback? Nice trick if you can do it.

How many low round NFL picks were discovered because a scout was looking at someone else on their team? A lot.

Fact is, the Pats are on every major program like white on rice and that cheesy website just recycled a Tomase column full of innuendo and very little fact.

Show us what cheesy little article says the pats are in every single major program like white one rice.

Pats are certainly getting info on McFadden along with another 100 or so college players who they think can improve the team. They need to address linebacking and secondary problems esp if Rodney, Bruschi, Seiau retire, Colvin gets let go because of salary considerations and Asante leaves for free agency.

I imagine it's pretty clear what I'd like to see them do with that pick, but they won't take McFadden. They'll get some incredible deal for 2 1sts and a 2nd from some team that desperately needs a running back.

I'm sure they wouldn't send scouts to Arkansas games if they didn't have McFadden, especially the ones at LSU and Missouri.
