Is this patriots team, over the first 13 games, the best team you have ever seen? I don't mean best ever, best YOU have ever seen. If not, who is?

Best I've ever seen... So far. If we don't win the SB, then those '01, '03, '04 teams are better... Gotta win the SB...

I was talking to my father a few weeks ago and the Pats came up. He's been watching and listening to football for over 60 years. He said this years Patriots are the best team he has ever seen. Thinking about it I can honestly say that I can't ever remember him missing a game on Sunday going back to the early Sixties.

I'm gonna get blasted here for saying this, but I thought the 2004 Pats were more balanced between offense and defense. As good as this O is, if they, for some reason, couldn't score 17 points, I do not believe this D could rise to the occasion and pitch a near shut out. The 04 team could.

No doubt about it. I've been around since the Pats were born (though I was only 13 when that happened, and not into the game details), and this is the best team offensively, and the defense can rise to the occassion, as they showed last night when they stuffed a very good Pittsburg, first and goal.

no way the 2001 team was better. even if they dont win the SB this year, it is still a better team than that one. To be THE best team ever they clearly have to win the SB, but even if they dont I still think they are much better than the 01 Patriots.

This is one of those difficult to compare things, are we better than the 49'ers of the 90's, Packers of the 70's, the Steelers of the 80's.. tough to judge as many things change and the NFL is not static. I lean toward them being one of the best, very close to the best.

Well, I think this is the best offense ever. I don't think the defense ranks in the top 5 or even 10 of all time, though. That said, the defense is solid and with the offense like it is... that still adds up to the best team ever. I can't think of a team that I feel like would beat them if they played some kind of best ever grudge match.

Let's not forget, the ONLY measuring stick for the best team ever is how much a team dominates their competition as reflected in 3 categories;

1. Margin of victory
2. Record
3. Super Bowl Champion

If the Patriots end up with the greatest margin of victory, go 19-0 AND win the Super Bowl, they WILL be the best team of all time. There is no other way to compare teams from different eras so each team is evauated by comparing them to their competition.

Having a weak or average defense is irrelevant to the equation.

Near impossible to compare teams from multiple decades apart. For example, in the 50s, really big linemen weighed 240 - 250, fast running backs were almost non-existent, the rules were very different, etc. Hope my order below holds up through 19 games.

2007 Patriots

1985 Bears

1984 49ers

1962 Packers

1978 Steelers

2004 Patriots

1954 Cleveland Browns

1994 49ers

1992 Cowboys

Great list. Saw 'em all. Sadly, don't remember 'em all that well.
Agree with all those saying that the real demarcation point will be the SB win, else sadly this team will be known as a wanna be with a fatal flaw exposed in the playoffs. My take...we win it all.

Best offense, yes. Team? The jury is still out.

The 2007 Pats just might be the best passing offense I've ever seen. The only passing games that come close are the 1989 and 1994 49ers. As for overall offenses, they're probably a notch behind them.

As for overall teams, if we're strictly going by the "through 13 games" criteria, then I'd say yes they are the best, but only because I don't remember how other contenders looked through 13 games. I remember how the other teams looked through the postseason, though. Once the Pats get to January, that's when this question needs to be asked again.

Regards,
Chris

Best I've ever seen. Easily. The 85 Bears may have given these guys a game, but I doubt it. They are fugging machines. When they're on, it's a beautiful, beautiful thing to watch.

Once again, it's a fact the Patriots are the most dominant team through 13 games by their point differential combined with their 13-0 record. If they do win out AND maintain the largest point differential, they ARE the best team ever.

If someone doesn't agree, show me how you would measure who you think is the best.
