I remember thinking that I loved the Welker signing.

I loved the Moss signing.

I loved the Brady and Thomas signing.

The Morris signing I didn't understand.

Is there any news on Morris? I wish he were still with the team. Great signing by Bill and Scott.

Is he the reason the Patriots don't take McFadden in the draft?

They won't take McFadden in the draft because they already have two very good running backs.

I don't understand why you wouldn't understand the morris signing.

he is what he is.

OK name them :D

I'm not high on Maroney right now either, but Morris looked like quite a pickup before he got hurt (3 straight 100 yard games). The guy had excellent vision to find the running lanes. That's the key to a successful running game. He wasn't a big name signing but he could be a star on this team if he comes back 100 percent.

If you are talking about Faulk and Morris good point. If not, Maroney has not been very good this year. Stop the insanity.

If they can get McFadden for a reasonably price and not have cap problems (and keep Moss, etc) then they should.

I didn't say I didn't like Maroney.

He has an up side. A big up side.

Are you capable of talking about anything else? If you're going to be obsessive, at least get your facts straight. Maroney has been pretty good this year. He hasn't head enough carries to be excellent, but he's done damn well with what he's been given.

Of course I can. You stated we would not draft McFadden because we have two very good rb's. Maroney has not been "very good" this year. Not even close.

Saying Maroney has been a "very good" back is plain old false.

Maroney has been average at best when he is not hurt or coming out of games due to being dinged up, or flat benched. His ypc is a product of the O. See Kevin Faulks ypc.

What exactly has he done this year to be called very good?

Look , I agree the kid has upside if he can stay healthy and work out the issues he is having. But saying he is very good is not accurate imo. Very good to me is a top NFL back. Maroney is not a top NFL back.

a) I did not say that we have two very good RBs.
b) I did not say that Maroney is very good. I said that he's pretty good, which he is, and which, itself, should keep us from drafting McFadden. We have far more pressing needs than upgrading a position where we already have a young, pretty good player with the potential to become better.

You keep repeating the same drivel on thread after thread. It's not making it any more accurate.

What's the matter guys? Too lazy to go back a couple pages and bump the LAST Maroney thread?
I guess since it has scrolled off, the most logical course of action is to make yet ANOTHER thread.

I am not sure which is the more likely scenario-

1: The Patriots trade the pick down for a smattering of value picks.

2: The Patriots trade the pick down for a smattering of value picks.

Samuel, Bruschi, Seau, and Harrison could easily be gone after this year. Those are big needs to fill on defense. I see some picks traded off for FA's and others used for development and depth.

McFadden will not be coming to NE. That just ain't the BB/Pioli way.

First, I agree we will most likely not see McFadden in a Pats uniform. But...would you really be shocked if BB/Pioli did exactly what all us brainiacs here said they would never do in a million years?

First, I love Morris as part of the RB rotation. But I knew the guy had a bit of an injury history when we signed him, so I wasnt thrilled. But I would never have expected him to be done after week 6. Im sure if the brass had a crystal ball and saw that coming, they never would have signed him. But his injury was a bit flukey. Im sure he'll come back from it and contribute next year. But I still do not see this team drafting McFadden. That pick would come with a $60million price tag. So, for that reason alone, I expect it will not happen. Ive seen McFadden play plenty. And Ive made a point of criticizing him for having such skinny legs. Which would only add to any potential injury risk that NFL backs all share. And Im sure he'll be a productive back for some other team willing to shell out, again, $60 MILLION. That team just wont be New England. If next year they feel like they need to supplement the position beyond our current backs, Im sure theyll bring in a reliable, low-contract veteran or they'll draft a young kid in the mid rounds of the draft. jmho.

The Pats right now have the 2nd highest payroll in the NFL behind only the Washington Redskins. And they still have a ton of veteran contracts to address. We all know the front office surprises us every year with how they draft and now how the add FAs, but one thing they never do to surprise us is give money away to completely unproven players. That McFadden contract would be in the $60 million range. Im 100% sure theyd rather just hang on to Asante and pay him that dough, then bring in some rookie who's never done squat in the NFL and pay him that kind of loot. We'll all be surprised to a degree with what they do. But it wont be by doing something ridiculous.

As much as I would like to see McFadden playing for us and as much as the RB position looks like an achilles heel for the Pats this year, I don't know about you guys, but I would like to see us use the high pick to somehow, some way, improve the LB position or some other key positition via trade or some other crafty move. That's just my $.02, besides I'm not willing to give up on Maroney until the END of the season.
