Stallworth's Value

I know Donte Stallworth hasn't produced as well as we all thought he would. But I still think he is a number 1 on a lot of teams, and I think his value has been undervalued in this sense. Wes Welker.

You know why Wes Welker has been a beast? Because he is lined up with a 3rd string CB or a LB. If we didn't have Stallworth, Welker would be with a number 2 CB and his production would drop.

Even though Stallworth hasn't been great, if you line Welker up with a number 2 and Stallworth with a number 3, then Stallworth will kill you. That is why I see the Pats keeping him, because even though he may not have the ideal production, he helps out Welker.

Stallworth has done pretty much exactly what I hoped he would. I dont think anyone here expected him to be a thousand yard receiver...

I'd say he does an outstanding job for us.
I don't think we'll be able to keep both he and Moss, though.
Moss is a higher priority than Stallworth but yeah, I hope we can
find a way to keep him.

I have no complains about Donte. He's a good YAC guy and he basically as advertised. Moss is you're deep threat. Wes is your slot/underneath guy and Donte is kind of a short route/open space kind of guy. He won't get his yards deep down the field but will pick them up once he has the ball. He's great at making people miss.

Stallworth is a big play threat because he is really good at getting YAC. He has his role in this offense. I wish his hands were a little more reliable but otherwise he has been as advertised. Moss will be the priority resign in 2008, as he should be.

I'm still trying to figure out how Stallworth burned us at TX Stadium.

At one pt, we were up 24-21, and it was 2nd and 20-how DS got some short hitch play and turned it for great yardage is still beyond me(and THAT was the momentum-turner).

Are those 5 yard hitch plays one of his strengths? I didn't think it was in his days in The Big Easy.

I think that is CJ's role next year if he can have a healthy off-season. The Pats still have CJ on rookie money and that is useful. Moss isn't going anywhere and I hope Gaffney comes back at the #4. The OL is intact, get Morris and Thomas back...the offense should be fine even without the draft.

Stallworth has been solid and a nice fit with Moss and Welker, but he would be a luxury next year. I think there are better uses for the cap space and roster spot.

He has chinks in his game, too many to pay him $7,000,000+ next year.

He has below average hands and with all the attention Moss gets he should be seeing a lot of 1:1 coverage so I was expecting a few more plays over the top but he is a great #3, but not worth eating up a lot of cap based on his production.

I would rather have Gaffney for $1,000,000 than Stallworth for $7,000,000.

Assuming we don't pick up his option & keep him, how much could we get in a trade? Are we even allowed to pick up his option, then trade him (is there a rule preventing that)?
Branch landed us a 1st round pick (and Seattle had to pay Branch big money). Does Stallworth give us a 1st also? I'd be happy with a 2nd. Or do we just cut him loose?

i never understood all the fuss about stallworth coming here in the 1st place. he hasn't even been #1 WR on his previous teams. joe horn was in new orleans and reggie brown was on philly. i think he was over-hyped because we were so desperate to show we could get any kind of decent receiver after last year's debacle. the real impact wr of course came later w. the signing of moss. and welker would be a value contributor on any team. miami were idiots letting him go. i remember really being impressed by his kick returns last year.

Stallworth was the Saints' #1 pick in '02(via the Ricky Williams trade, their other #1 was Charles Grant).

While I never thought he was worth being a #1 pick, he was nonetheless a very good #2 deep threat, to complement Joe Horn being Brooks' safety valve.

Moss is a deep threat, but so is Donte. Donte does his best work in the open field. Moss took a lot of reps that Donte was supposed to have, but he is doing fine in his role. Not 6mil a year fine, but good for this year I have no problem gaffney and jackson battling it out next year of the #2 spot opposite Moss.

It would entail a significant cap hit to do so. If the Pats pick up the option, they'll be keeping him for at least one and probably two more years.

I like stallworth alot, just hearing his interviews and seeing his play does it for me. I hope the pats can find a way to keep him

Stallworth has outstanding YAC success and distressingly many drops. Those two may be related to each other.

He's a classic #2 receiver -- a guy who'll hurt you if you don't focus carefully on shutting him down. That's as opposed to a #1 receiver, who'll do some damage even if you DO focus on him, and will absolutely rip you to shreds if you don't put the screws on tight.

I think he has been decent when given a chance. He does seem to drop easy passes at least once per game which is bit frustrating. You would think he would get more look since Moss is always double covered and Welker gets tons of attention but so far, not much production out of him. I wish he could always play like he did against the Cowboys but I guess I learned to accept that he is not too consistent but good enough for us.
