Hopefully we trade down for a slew of picks.

That said what do you think about a kid like Jonahtan Stewart with a later pick.

230 pounds. Looked great for the ducks in the sec.

I like him but we have Maroney, Morris and Faulk for next year. That's enough.

If one of them goes down we are thin. Right now if Faulk gets hurt , we are in trouble considering LoMo's injury history thus far and the fact Morris is on ir.

We are carrying four back plus Evans right now. Faulk has proven to get dinged up after a lot of work.

I am all for adding Stewart. Faulk will not be around forever. Maroney could develope into that slashing , recieving threat.. Morris is a mix of the two. I think for the future a big pounder like Stewart would be a great addition.

Picks up a blitz great , can run in between the tackles , great explosion etc.

He's only about 5'9" yet he weighs 230 plus easy. I like him a lot if we can pull him away from the dinner table. He has good speed, vision and oodles of toughness. He's one of the better bblitz pickup RB's in this draft and can catch a little.
The real hard part is watching that funky Oregon offense and trying to project him in our offense.

Hopefully Stewart slims down a little bit, BB will sees Stewart as a clone of former Giant RB Joe Morris.

Last time I checked Stewart was listed at 5'11", and he looks taller than 5'9" to me. Stewart's probably going in the first 14-24 picks by the way, so the Patriots would have to draft another RB in the first round in order to get him. I don't know this is likely to happen, but I will say Stewart's one of the RB's I'd most like to see in NE's system. The Patriots drafting someone like Mendenhall in the second seems more likely at this point.

hes not 5'9..hes over 5"10 and 230 slim down? the dude is muscle. look at his body and hes 1 of the strongest players @ Oregon..and has been

The combine will give us his actual height down the 1/8 inch mark and he will have 3 plus months after the season to get his weight down. I beleive he ran a 4.45 last season at 220 lbs.

This draft has the potential to have a lot of really good running backs, and most are juniors this season, if Stewart is 5'9" then he is only the 4th ranked 5'9" RB behind Rice, Hart and Slaton. Unless Stewart fills a particular need for a team, it is really hard to imagine him going in the middle of the first round.

What's up with all the short RBs for 2008? I think body build is more important than an inch of height. If he has enormous legs/solid build he might still be successful at the pro level ala MJD. Wish he were a little taller though.

Taller? I think 5'10 - 6'0 is the perfect height for a rb now in days.

I would love if the pats picked up Stewart in the secound or maybe early third. We have that extra Oakland pick. Not to mention I bet we get a bunch of picks if we trade down.

Mo Drew of Jacksonville is proving that body build can make up for a lack of height. Wasn't Curtis Martin about 5'10" or so?

I am not saying 5'9" is a bad size as long as they have speed and/or beef to gto with it.

For my part, I prefer my RBs to be about 5'11"/220. It seems that the last couple of years there's been an explosion of 6'1 and above RBs. While obviously you make allowance for running style, those tall guys seem to expose an awful lot of hip and rib when they tote the rock. The shorter guys seem to run even lower...I suppose the better to hide behind the offensive line.

I agree. If two backs have roughly the same body mass and speed , I pick the guy who is 5'10over the guy who is 6'1. Lower center of gravity.

Give me a compact powerful guy over a tall upright runner any day of the week.

why does he need to get his weight down? He had his best season ever @ 230..if thats accurate and he looks great. He ran in the 4.3s last year and as long as he runs under 4.5..hes the 2nd back taken

hes cut..hes not fat. more weight = better if you can have the same speed

1342 pounds for the triangle 3 in terms of lifts(bench-squat-powerlean)

4.34 hand timed last year..thats hand time so i expect 4.45 or better
his powerclean was 402 ..only behind Ngata all time @ oregon. thats tremendous

hes a big guy..fast..very strong.

4th back if he measures at 5"9? height doesnt matter. hes taller than that but even if he was 5"9..he goes ahead Rice and Slaton who are projected 2nd rounder. Their game doesnt translate nearly as well as Stewart. Slaton is too small. Rice is small and slow as is Hart.

every scout will agree with me. Dennis Erickson said he reminded him of Steven Jackson of the Rams when they played him

im confident hes over 5"10, im confident he doesnt need to lower his weight and im confident he will be the best back taken

watch him bust through a D and never look back

I think Jonathan Stewart IS the best back in the draft, for the Patriots. The next best could very well be Mendenhall.

Anyone saying Stewart needs to drop some pounds obviously doesn't know what they are talking about, as I've seen the guy play about four times, and he's built like a rock. Big solid legs (with nice calves), strong core, and a muscular upper body. He's physical, tough, and fast. That's the kind of combo I want out of a RB. Also, he's not 5'9", and I have no clue where that height is coming from. Everywhere I've seen the guy's listed as 5'11" 233lbs, or 5'11" 230lbs. I've found that to be a great height for RB's, and for a RB to have that lower center of gravity, while bringing that kind of weight and speed, is outstanding. IF Stewart runs in the 4.4's there is no way he gets out of the top 35-40, and I think there's a very good chance he goes in the top 14-28.

This clip from 2007 gives you a peak at the speed this 230lbs back brings to the table:

and he doesnt go down on first contact. It seems our offense runs better with powerful backs. A guy like Stewart whos sort of like Ronnie Brown imo ..big, strong and fast, fits us well

Yup, he's always moving forward, and fights off tackles well.

i think he could easily been leading rusher if he was in another offense. he had like 1400 yards this year but i think he coulda gotten more. they run a spread offense so it doesnt benefit him really but everytime he runs the ball, impressive. hes a soft spoken guy as well and a hard worker. i dont think hes Marion Barber tough but hes very tough in his own right. Barber sometimes looks to just truck someone while Stewart looks to score

Plus his show on Comedy Central is humerous.

I also think that Stewart is going to be a 1st round pick, maybe a late 1st rounder, but I doubt he lasts until the 2nd round, and certainly not to the Pats 32nd pick in the 2nd round.

The dream deal would be to trade the #2 overall pick to Dallas for Demarcus Ware and the Browns #1 pick which should be early 20's. Then we draft J. Stewart. We fix LB and RB at the same time with that kind of deal. I doubt that happens, it all depends on how desperate the Cowboys are for that #2 pick.

I think Jonathan Stewart IS the best back in the draft, for the Patriots. The next best could very well be Mendenhall.
