Mercury Morris on WEEI

Why is anyone giving this loser the time of day?

Controversy sells.

It's that plus the fact that if you never get any counterpoint in your life you are living in a bubble. Some people like staying inside the bubble 24 and 7. I don't. There is something sad about bubble life where everybody reinforces the lame beliefs over and over, and they think that helps the team win. What BS. All that does is make you stupid and vulnerable to losing your farm.

Mercury Morris has, whether we like his presentation or not, a perspective that is uniquely different from the typical homer position. For one thing he has personally climbed the mountain. It's instructive to see how jealous Patriots fans deride a guy that has climbed the mountain that their own guys have never climbed. They find every reason they can find to marginalize and minimize and take away from the guy or from that team. Why? Jealousy. It's really that simple.

Can I take part in a jealousy fest just to be "in" with the bubble people? Hell no. I happen to like counterpoint, especially the colorful variety that makes you laugh and see life from another perspective.

Mercury's the man. I love the fact that he doesn't wear $5k suits. Who needs suits? Suits are the lamest invention in the history of mankind. They are ugly and stifle the neck area and restrict movement in the shoulders. They are like harnesses of the business world to remind the wearer that he's owned. That's my personal take, and I'm not impressed with suits and I'm not impressed with the critique of Mercury's suits. Big deal, so he isn't on GQ's best dressed list. Whoopie. Who the hell would *want* to be? What are we a fashion show here?

Lame. Lame, lame, lame. The man has climbed the mountain and we knock him for his choice of suits. Jeezuz, and we call ourselves NFL fans?

"The Patriots completely emaciated opponents, at least in the early part"
-Mercury Morris

(PS emaciated is what you look like when you are starving)

He tried to be civil at first saying the pats have character, and he's just playing with people saying what he says. Now though he is talking about the pats running it up and that shows false scores in comparison to the 72fins

Not a bad interview. At the end he talked about "The Gridiron Greats" a charitable orginization to help ex players. He said the sad thing was that people had to get involved and that the NFL and NFLPA doesn't do enough for ex-players. http://www.gridirongreats.org/

I agree he is funny as hell and honest. If anything he's actually motivational. If the Pats do the trick I think Mercurey will be nothing but class and have more honest praise for the Pats than anyone.

Mercury Morris is pathetic! I think someone put rat poison in his crack!!!

Mercury Morris is a bitter old man who is trying to come to grips with the reality that his 72 Dolphins may not be unique after all. At first he was saying, "well they haven't done it yet" and now that the Pats are closer, he's saying "the Pats will never be the first, it's already done".

In '72 the NFL season was SHORTER and there wasn't the intense scrutiny that surrounds current teams shooting for the mark. The Fins were only around a few years before this happened, and they were playing in a conference filled mostly with old AFL squads not even 15 years old. The Pats play in the dominant conference in the NFL and have beaten the NFC's best and the defending champs IN THEIR HOUSES.

The Pats could be the FIRST to go 19-0 though, and they are a legitimate threat, you can tell by the way the 72 Fins act - they are SCARED. In 2005 everybody knew the Colts weren't going to try and run the table, so there wasn't any reason to talk trash or go on Sportscenter and rap about being unbeaten. Plus everyone doubted whether Peyton could get it done in the playoffs.

That is hilarious!

Lame. Lame, lame, lame. The man has climbed the mountain and we knock him for his choice of suits.

He used the same substances Peruvians did to help them climb mountains.:D

Holier than thou Shula must love having crackhead Mercury stealing his thunder.

72 fins run it up? LOL!!

I don't even want to explain why that's ludicrous.

Sure...thats what makes it funny,he is whistling pass the graveyard and he knows it.He loves his fins accomplishments, and he wants to be alone. At least he is honest about it.

This post is beyond absurd. For one, there's no shortage of "haters" in the media. You don't even have to step "outside the bubble" to find them. The beef with Morris isn't the criticism, it's the fact the man is a moon bat. He's completely incoherent. Look, Dan Marino hates the Pats as well, but then again his brain isn't fried from cocaine so at least he can formulate a semi-coherent argument why they will win or lose each week.

And frankly, Morris' career was overrated. He was the Ringo Starr of the '72 Phins and soon enough he will crawl back under the rock from which he came.

The only mountain he climbed was a mountain of cocaine. How many lives did he ruin for his own personal gain? He's a piece of **** that shouldn't get the time of day, much less time on TV.
