Got a bit of time last night to take another look at the Ravens game so I watched each play in real time and then in slow mo a few times to see what went down each time (as best I could with the crappy ESPN camera work). Not sure why I do such things, BB never calls to ask my opinion, but I find it interesting.

anyway here's what I saw from the Ravens D - on the Pats first series or two the Ravens played a lot cleaner than I thought they did in terms of pass coverage. from the angles I had they wheren't holding or interfering past the 5yds and such. and the Pats marched down the field using short dumps to WWW (white wes welker) and Donte culminating in a well defensed pass to Watson and a horrible drop to watson.

starting late in the first and into the second the Ravens started pushing Welker around more, which then progressed into more blatent holding and interfering. I only got thru the second but there was a case where after a play was pretty much over and with WWW nowhere near the action on a run play he got clocked by a raven while he was looking in the other direction. He responded by nailing the guy a play or two later (there's a youtube vid, I might upload one of my own that's better quality though)

so I think the ravens came out and realized that playing it clean wasn't in any way going to work so they changed up game plans. The refs should have put a stop to it early but chose not to. After reading and hearing about how the Ravens amazingly found a way to stop Moss AND Welker it was good for my own psyche to see how. It will be interesting to see how the officiating goes this week against the Steelers.

Just my observations....

Please do post the better quality vid of Wes launching that db.
That was so enjoyable to watch.
Better res on that clip would be cool.

Thanks for the analysis!

I think the ONLY real beef the Ravens have with the officiating was that the "strike zone" changed in the fourth quarter. They were actually calling a few (though certainly not all).

BB said it all. There's not a lot of room for error in a close game.

Look for a great game on Sunday against a talented, cold weather Steeler team. Go Pats!

I'm not sure the strike zone actually changed. The Ravens committed a grievous hold in the end zone with all the officials on top of the shortened field, obliged to see everything that happened with the game on the line. Such a blatant hold cannot be allowed under anybody's pipe-dream of what is consistent or inconsistent.

The Ravens changed it up by pushing the river further than it could be pushed under any set of circumstances.
